Decent home protection weapon?

Me and my mother (im 16) just moved into a new apartment (crackheads, jailbait, etc.. used to live here, and its next to a bad part of town) And I need something that can decently help me protect the house. Obviously guns aren't an option due to me being a minor.

I was thinking a bat, or a sledge(used to cut wood).

What would you reccommend?

You can own a gun at 16. Have your mother buy you a 20 GA Shotgun; preferably a 12 GA if you can shoot it properly. Go to the range and get comfortable with it. It is one of the best defense weapons for home use. It's loud, packs a good punch, and allows for a bit of errror on the part of the shooter, due to its spread pattern.

If you're going with a no-firearms approach, go with a good old baseball bat. I'd advise against the sledge, as its harder to swing and will slow down your attack time. Hope this helps. Oh, and get a dog if you can. A mid/large size dog does wonders...

My mother said no to any form of gun, even though I already have a few shotguns.

So I guess the baseball bat will work

And no dogs in the apartment complex.

on the window i would cut a broom stick and place in the tracks of the window.

as for the protection bats, or sledge. i feel they are way too slow, tee-ball bat, or an axe handle alone is ok. hammers are great small light and add a bit of reach. sawed off cue sticks are nice.

bought my wife this cool non leathal defence with more than the one shot tazers, and a 13 ft range...

it is backed by kimber (one of the finest factory built firearms manafacture)

he was wearing glasses, holding his breath, with his eyes closed, ready for the spray, talking about the time he would have been able to attack at 15 seconds he was bent over and had people handing him the stuff he needed to wash his face. what if you got a full shot into someones face that was not ready for it.

If you "already have a few shotguns", what do you need another weapon for?

Go out and get a Expandable Baton, it's fairly cheap and durable and will suit most needs.

The best thing I tihnk you could get in your situation is pepper spray, a baseball bat, some really tough zip ties or gorilla duct tape, and some kind of blind fold. The process is something like this:

1) You hear attacker in house, so you grab the pepper spray, bat, and duct tape (which you put in pocket)...then go to safe room with family with locked doors and call cops.

2) If sob kicks in door or gains entry to the room, spray him with the pepper spray; hit him over the head with baseball bat (swing with everything you got); and while he is unconscious you get his weapon and zip tie/duct tape his hands; then slip blind fold over his eyes, keep him on his back by placing your leg on his neck (have family watch for him trying to reach into his pockets or try anything funny...also have them get some form of weapon as well...although he'll probably still be out of it , unconscious, or dead from being hit in the head with a bat), wait on police to arrive.

kali sticks/ rattan sticks are lighter than baseball bats, come in pairs. They also can be readily made from just about anything available. From broomsticks, to umbrellas, to canes. The techniques of Kali/arnis/escrima translate from sticks to knives. And it's one martial art that doesn't take bullshit.

The best weapon is yourself. Everything else is just accessories.
