Here's another odd ass Chinese weapon in action. I never even bothered attempting this one:

Keep in-mind, most chain whips are supposed to have either a blade or a small iron ball at the end of them. For forms demos they usually do as well to my knowledge.

Do those chain whips have a lanyard on the end the wielder grasps to keep it attached in the event he loses his grip? I'd like to think so.
I think being proficient in a flexible/flailing type weapon like that would be awesome; considering that a skilled practitioner can spend the better part of a lifetime mastering just a couple of Chinese weapons, that one would be among my top choices. That is, they can be effectively deployed at a variety of ranges quickly, strike with devastating impact, can be used to tie up and disarm someone, and most of all I would imagine it's a major bitch to defend against.

I've never seen a boffer axe before but a weird one i train with sometimes is the hammer. not really trained for as a weapon, just something i came up with to add weight and projection to my strikes. since they are just an extention of hand to hand moves

I'm infamous in my swordfighting circle for ruining the shit out of people's hands. The hands are the most available part of the body to strike and do some significant damage to with just a flick of the wrist.
There are some nifty trapping things you can do with a sword, my favorite of which is what a good sword practitioner would do just about every time you see a movie and the two guys lock up all up in each other's face. When you're that close to a guy and his sword hand is immobile, let go of your sword with one hand and grab the hilt of his sword. Fight over.
The axe I've trained with is basically a stick with some hard rubber jerry rigged onto it in the shape of an axe. It's not the best in the world but I can't seem to find any decent sparring axes around. There are some awesome trips, weapon traps and shield traps and disarms you can pull off with a shield. Just think of it as not only a blade but a hook as well and the rest flows from there. Watching that scene in gladiator where the guy had a sword and axe had me thinking the whole time "he could be doing so much more."

That's just because you're former Military and Soldiers love using their belts as weapons. lol
If you could do with a belt what they could with a chain whip, removing a belt to use it on an enemy would be a whole new set of overcomplicated problems for them.
See Jet Li in the final fight scene of Fist of Legend.

Yeah, like I said in the initial post, no one is going to find actual battle-field or real combat use footage of a staff in-action. So far there's very few groups doing anything like that. The Dog Brothers being one of them. Short of that, demonstrations that are choreographed are the next best thing like it or not.
