Seriously. Revolvers don't jam, they have less moving parts so you'll have to run it over to break it, you can fire .38's (a weaker round with less kick) to practice and .357's for business carry, and they're really cheap.
You can get them with small barrels (bigger kick but easier concealability)
or bigger, dirty harry style.

awesome bro, that's what i like too see, i think revolvers look sweet, also how much longer, is the long barrel? i think the small one looks better though, but depends how long the barrels are...

A quick search of smith and wesson's site shows they make them with small barrels ( <4 ), medium frame ( <6 ), Large frame ( <8 ) and extra large (8+).
Bigger the barrel, easier the recoil is to handle.
Not to mention, pistol whipping is GREAT with revolvers, as you won't break it, they're generally heavier, and you look badass doing it.
EDIT:
Here's the Smith and Wesson website.
Here
Revolvers are the best pistol for learning to shoot because they're the easiest to understand, and to handle.
.357 is a good choice because you can shoot .38's in it also, which are easier to handle and cheaper to buy. It'll still take a man down, but you'll need to do the Mozambice drill to be sure (two to the body, one in the head.)

nice, i'm a pretty big guy, so i don't wanna look gay holding a tiny weapon, at the same time, i don't need to be dirty hairy... lol at the pistol whipping though, i never really factored that into the process...

Me personally, I dont like anything smaller than a 9 mil. Anything less reduces stoping power. My suggestion to you is go to a near by shooting range. Most shooting ranges allow you to rent guns for shooting. That way you can determine whether you like the feel of a 9 mil or a 44 mag (revolver) without actually having to buy them.
