Bullseyes Don't Shoot Back

Have any of you read the book Bullseyes Don't Shoot Back? I read it a while ago and thought it was intriguing. I tried the hip fire method he suggests and didn't care for it too much. I recently took a defensive handgunning class that taught this method as well as another similar technique. I was a bit dubious at first but I soon found my accuracy going up.

For those of you unfamiliar with the book or concept. The author has taught various state and national law enforcement personnel to fire from the hip with a stiff straight arm, as sighting is impractical in a high pressure situation. It actually works really well once you drill it a bit.

The other method that I was taught was from the holster draw to center of the body with the arm resting at center mass. This was reasonably accurate but really gives the other guy a huge profile to shoot at. I really prefer a modified weaver stance so you are minimizing your profile.

If you get a chance check the book out its actually fairly descriptive and seems like a good concept.

I have never read the book but I am going to range in about an hour and we have a nationaly rank shooter in our department I will ask him about it. When we are close to the target (7 or less yards), we are taught to look over the gun using only the front sight to shoot the traget. It is quicker and accurate way to shoot.

That was what I was taught as well. This method you do no use the sights all. I'd be curious to hear what he has to say about it. The center of the body technique was shockingly accurate but like I said, is tactically weak.

we were taught a modified point shoot for cqc..works like a charm.keeps the gun close to your body, minimizes profile, and gives you the ability to aim without sight aquisition

The CQC programs have improved dramatically from the shock troop, cold war days of the 80s.

Bullets can be fatal, but if you want them to be fatal FAST, you need to hit something vital, and those targets aren't large. Point shooting just doesn't have the inherent accuracy to reliably hit center of mass at any kind of meaningful range.

umm..it certainly does..since we are talking about cqc...meaningful range is 5-8 meters

I talked with our firearms instructor. He said that the book was about point shooting. He said that it is an ok way to shoot only if you are very close to your opponent. He prefers not to use that way of shooting. He was familiar with who the author was and that style of training. I am only an OK shot so I really coiuld use anything that would improve my shooting.
