I would say to start shooting, a 380ACP. Its not too soft of too strong. Has a decent recoil, but nothing dramatic. Besides that ammo is not as expensive as something like 40's and 45's.

Most glocks can be converted to fire .22LR rounds. It can be done in less than a minute....just slide in the different barrel and mag and your done. But really a 9mm is an easy gun to control and is still plenty lethal.
