the 1911 sucks so much this is a small list of one that carry it
Marine Force Recon, Los Angeles Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics, the FBI Hostage Rescue Team and 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta (Delta Force)
The 1911 requires rigorous maintenence and regular, thurough break downs. It has numerous parts, and is quite easy to re-assemble wrong (Which is why you see so many 1911s with idiot marks.) It's exremley finnicky regarding ammunition and magazines. It costs around $800 to get a model that's high quality.

A glock, on the other hand, has about 5 parts and can be cleaned in about 3 minutes. It only goes together one way and unless you fill it with concrete, won't fail. It'll shoot anything from any magazine. It costs around $400.

If you understand every nut and bolt of the pistol and can re-assemble it while hogtied and blind, the 1911 is good. If not, you really should look elsewhere.

Also, Recon and Delta carry whatever they want. I've seen Recon marines and they carried a mix of Sigs, HKs and 1911s. Delta probably has even more highspeed toys to play with.

the 1911 is a great weapon and was my chosen side arm, to each his own..

I agree with some of what you've said. I think you're overblowing the maintainance on the 1911 though.

1911's are not all that hard to break down and you can get a souped up taurus for about $600.

$800 Sig GSR:

Springfeild operator for about $1000

Most new glocks are between $505 and 570. Glocks can be beat to shit and they wont fail.

i believe ALL guns need maintenance, i have put my kimber tle vs glock 19 in the "1000 round torture test", what i have found out from that was, my glock 19 could not hold a group as tight as my 1911 for the first few hundred rounds, during this time i thought if i could not stop something with 45 shots from my glock or 24 shots from my 1911, i would be dead because that is the amount of my carry mag + 2 extra mags. so i would much rather have a accurate gun when it counts than one that carries a lot of bullets and it won't hit the intended target.

cleaning of my firearms, i clean my glock after i shoot and i clean my 1911 after i shoot, all my guns get the same attention after a shoot. no big deal, the only reason you don't see glocks with idiot marks is people are too scared to attempt to fully disassemble.

ammo and mags, i take to the range and test to find the best match for peek performance, so when the time comes it is not my firearm/ammo/mags that fail it will be operator error, and that is why i try to head to the range a few times a month, so i can preform the best to my ability.

cost, a firearm is for personal protection...... is there a cost you can put on your life?

the glock has a joke for a trigger pull

+1 for that. I got a used USP 9mm (LEM) and love it. Plus, it's DAO so you don't even have to worry about cocking it. Mine doesn't even have a safety. Just point and shoot.
