Best gun for GF/Fiancee

So for my GF bday (fiancee whatever) she wants a gun, since I have a 1911 she wants one too. However I was thinking of getting her a snub revolver or a glock .40 sw. Any one have any suggestions besides the standard 9mm? Also I live in cali so a lot of good weapons are out, im not even sure I can buy a snub in cali.

What's she want it for? If she just wants something to go to the range and shoot with you with, then just have her fire some guns she likes and pick the one she likes best. If it's like a home defense thing, Remington 870 Pump ftw.

Spend a few hours at a local range that rent guns. Try not only different makes but different calibers. Let her pick the one that feels the best to her. The one that she is the most comfortable with will be the one she does the best with.

Don't push short barrel/compact pistols unless it's for a specific purpose such as concealment or a back-up. They are more difficult to shoot accurately and will kick more than a full sized model in the same caliber. Kick (and loud noises) scare most people away from shooting or cause them to develop a flinch.

So long as you stay with a major manufacturer, quality won't be an issue.

If it's for self-defense, go with something at least 9mm or 38spl. If it's for target shooting, something in 22 lr is great (cheap ammo and fun).

Get her what is called a "pepperbox". You can usually pick one up at a local gun show for a few dollars.

first is she willing to use a gun to kill someone? if not then a gun is not for her for protection.

revolvers are great.
have her shoot a few and see.

S&W Model 442 Revolver

It's the hammerless small frame model that shoots .38+P.

My buddies' wives all seem to like shooting my Colt .380 government model. My wife likes my Bersa Thunder .380 best.

Mixicus is right have her try different choices and see what she likes.
