Yeah I don't see the Krav knife or guns defenses as much use vs someone who flat wants to kill you, running and finding cover is the best option there. But against someone who wants to rob or kidnap you or someone your with? They could be, for sure.

Aikido, i do self defense with knifes we actully go all out also full speed. Its hard tho, the only reason why some arts seem liek they go with to restience the move can break something an arm or something...

this thread is still going on?
lol.

I highly doubt aikido will work against someone who is on crack and looking to put 50holes in your chest. The rare instances that i think it will work is if the aikido man has put in 10-30years in his art and practiced against people really trying to cut him, not some slow randori. Maybe "O sensei" could do it, but not the normal aikido person.

Aikido may work in the case of someone holding a knife to threaten you or someone else, but not against someone who is jacked up on drugs looking to shank you prison style.
Well if you consider being stabbed 3-8times before you throw him then you could say it works. But tell me where in your body you're willing to get perforated? and if you'll still be able to throw them after being stabbed. maybe. maybe not.

Seriously running or pulling a gun are your best options. Krav maga seems to train the most practical defenses but I seriously doubt the ability of an unarmed person who is trained in this situation. but i give that trained person a better chance.

4) How bad does it really suck to get tased? I'm pretty sure all cops get tased once before they get signed off by their departments to carry one; every cop I know who'se carried one says it sucks, but not bad enough to cause some of the hysterical reactions one sees in a lot of the dash-cam videos from police traffic stops that end in someone getting zapped.

P.S. I got an ASP that goes with me in my car everywhere; an extended, 2-hand model. I love it.

Not overused. The best tool LE has since, well, maybe EVER.

2) Do cops like them?
Cops LOVE, LOVE, LOVE them.

3) How well do they work?
They work great, especially against drunk/drugged/deranged offenders that OC, Batons and Pain Compliance. don't work on

4) How bad does it really suck to get tased?
It really really sucks, for a short time. The recovery come pretty quick.

The PD's I've worked for don't spend a lot of time on disarming a knife, and no time at all on fighting with a knife (actually not allowed by most dept's- use gun or non-lethal, never a knife, to attack). If a guy has a knife, don't waste time trying to disarm him. A knife is deadly force authorized, period. Use the gun.

Lucky!! We don't get tasers. They won't let us have them. Afraid of lawsuits. Oh well, at least I don't have to get tased in training!!

Good point about OC though. That stuff isn't much worse than Taco Bell's hottest hot sauce, IMO. Hardly affected me at all, and that took about 15 minutes to kick in.

yes simiulate knife fights with highlighters. You end up marked, you end up cut. Or have real knife fights and grow better as you do not die.
