Icon3 TKO - Sept 29th Big Announcement Theory...

TKO is having a press conference this Friday (Aug 11th) to make a "HUGE" Announcement and I was wondering what it could possibly be? Any ideas? This event is going to be at the Bell centre in Montreal and will showcase there new Octagon Cage. Is this "Huge" news going to just be an announcement of the new cage in the same sense that Hughes v GSP had various press conference announcements to state the same thing to people just in different locations?
OR: is this news going to be of a fight announcement? If so I can't think of anything that it could be since GSP and the Crow are both fighting in the UFC the previous weekend and they are the only French Canadians and potential fighters that I think could have a chance at selling out the Bell Centre.
There are only a couple of theories that I've been throwing around and they're really don't make any sense.

First is that it could be a match between The Crow and Phil Baroni which is a long time coming.

Second is that somehow the UFC is going to be in Montreal? .. ha, only because a cage was illegal in Montréal until recently and now they've abandoned their ring and gone with a octagonal cage. The original plan was for a octagon ring (Like TNA wrestling). Also, Dana White has said many times that he would like to bring the UFC to Canada and in Particular he was trying to get this coming UFC (Hughes v GSP) in Canada. It was either going to be Alberta or Montreal but ideally Montreal for GSP. That apparently wasn't going to happen because of the cage being illegal but now it's here. This UFC with GSP is the biggest one I can imagine and would be a great one to have in Montreal. This idea doesn't work though because the dates are different and tickets in Florida are already being pre sold for UFC.

SO, basically. Any other ideas on what this huge announcement could be for TKO?

Cheers.

Hi Raised Fist,

I can answer a couple of your questions:

Firstly - the "BIG" announcement is of the main event for TKO 27.

Secondly - nothing is definite yet, but the UFC was considering having a show in Montreal, in early 2007, perhaps for GSP's first title defense :O

Hioki/Hominick is probably getting pushed back, especially since Hioki is fighting in Bushido, then may have a Shooto Pacific Rim title fight in the coming months in Japan. I've heard Hominick was going to be fighting at a catchweight of 148. Whatever that means.

Hominick's rumored to be fighting Joe Stevenson at UFC 65, so I don't know if he'll take a fight before that. He needs to train his ass off, cause Stevenson's a big and controlling 155er.

Yeah, kinda ridiculous huh. And here I thought they were trying to build up Hominick.

Well, in reality how much can they really build him up? There are just certain guys at that weight of 155 who will be bad match ups for him at this point, and those are guy's he would need to beat in order to build him into a true title contender at that weight, unless you had something else in mind that they can build him up as. I myself can accept that not everyone will be champ, but if matched properly can definitely make for great fights and excellent additions to cards, and could settle for that for the time being.
