i like the mystique surrounding the Japanese orgs, UFC could learn a little about production from them.

There is no true sport of MMA, MMA is way too broad a term for ANYONE to try and make it seem like it is standardized. hell, no global governing body that isn't US-centric = most people in the states will ignore.

I sent an email, as a fan of combat sports, not as an old PRIDE fanboy (which I admit freely, I used to love PRIDE, but I still watched UFC, I just preferred PRIDE a little bit more due to production values etc) and hope to be seeing more fights in HD.

but lets just hope HDnet isn't just a stepping stone for K-1 exposure in the US...have to keep moving onto bigger and better networks if they want to grow, but once again I think, why would K-1 care about the US market? just like why would UFC care about the japanese market? Doesn't make sense...just a global fan's perspective.

You've been brainwashed by that sentiment that's been running in the Heavies forum to "support fighters not orgs." Frankly that's crap. Org fandom can exist and there is a good reason for that -- the way Pride staged fights was better for me than the way UFC did it.

1. 10 Minute First Round
2. Yellow Card Rule
3. Fantastic Larger than Life entrances
4. Lenny Hart
5. Grand Prix
6. Ring
7. Incredible pre-fight hype videos
8. Good PbP and Color Commentators
9. Better Lighting
10. 4 Point attacks
11. Judging Criteria
12. etc. etc.

Pride did a lot of things differently from the UFC -- some things not so nice but in general many things were far better in my book.

This doesn't hold true for everyone, but for those to whom it does, this is our thread and this is our choice to support the kind of MMA we want. Half the spectacle of Pride was its fighters, but the other half was the way it did its shows. Don't begrudge as this because all YOU can do is blindly support fighters.

Why doesn't it make sense? Expand business overseas and see greater returns. Is it that hard to imagine? K1 tried it with their US show, wasn't all that successful but the interest is there, because you can make more money that way, and regardless of what the motives of the owners of the org are, more money is always good, if not to line that retirement fund it will at least let you pay fighters more, get better fighters, have bigger budget for production, etc.

We'd all like to see our favorite superstars get paid a million or more per fight, to see Sakuraba get paid that expanding to the US market is a good idea.

I'd be much more happy if MMA had one big NFLesque org which is what the UFC is trying to do

4 Point Attacks, Yellow/Green Card rule, Judging Criteria, 10 Minute 1st Round are superficialities? If you TRULY believe that you must be a newb to MMA.
