sakuraba wants special rules...wtf!?!

"No stranger to unique rules, Kazushi Sakuraba has requested special rules for his upcoming HERO'S bout.

The 38 year old Sakuraba, who recently returned from training with the Chute Boxe Academy in Curitiba, Brazil, held his open workout for the media yesterday, in preparations for his August 5th debut in K-1 HERO'S. The longtime PRIDE fan favorite stated that for his upcoming bout with Lithuanian Kestutis Smirnovas, that he wanted unlimited ten minutes rounds for the bout, until one man was finished. "This way, it is black or white," said Sakuraba.

K-1 producer Sadaharu Tanigawa previously stated that HERO'S may use a ten minute round followed by a second five minute round for the bouts in the 85 kilogram tournament. In response to Sakuraba's request, Tanigawa stated that while it would be extremely hard to do such a thing, given HERO'S format for television broadcast, but that Sakuraba's past with unique rules, such as his time limitless bout with Royce Gracie, may force him to consider some rule alteration of that nature."

All fights should have that rule. Then at least peoples would try to finish the fights and not only search points

I have no problem with that. Its not like he's copping out, looking for an advantage. He just wants to make sure there's a definate winner.

Although the 10 minute round appeals to me, it likely wont happen because of sponsorship issues and commercial programming.

When Royce asks for these rules (and no referee stopages as well) he gets ridiculed..

I say this is a great and brave rule change request from sak and he deserves respect for trying to get it done..

there is the arguement now though.. Is it really MMA as a sport (set rounds/same rules for all etc) or as entertainment?

you obviously dont know much about what gracie asks for in special rules then, sakuraba asked for something that would make the crowd more excited, gracies ask's for rules thats stupid like "no knees to the head, no soccer kicks" etc.

I agree. Total BS by many posters on Sherdog.

They rag on Royce for special rules. The second Sak requests similar type rules it's all of a sudden ok.

You know who you are out there. Don't deny it.
