PPV buys for Affliction come into question - source
“As far as the numbers went, the big number everyone is looking for is the Affliction PPV number. Based on independent estimates we’ve heard, the number has been estimated at between 50,000 and 85,000 buys. Atencio claimed the number as being higher, saying it topped 100,000, although at press time, any numbers could only be considered rough estimates. Atencio told us that since UFC doesn’t release numbers, he’s not going to either (I know, after saying it was more than 100,000). Keep in mind that Pride claimed 150,000 buys for its first U.S. PPV in 2006, and the real number ended up being 40,000 (we know that because Nevada taxes on PPV revenue so you can get a real number; California does not so getting real numbers will be more difficult).”
More Questionable Numbers From Affliction?

But if these numbers are true then affliction is in trouble. It wouldn't surprise me to see the UFC put on a show to compete against afflcition in the next event.

Affliction was very smart by having their next show on Oct 11th, since the UFC already has two shows in October. Making it very unlikely they'd be able to put together anything to counter program it.

Why would they be in trouble?
The UFC lost a ton of money after White and the Fertittas took it over:
Meet UFC President Dana White - Entrepreneur.com
White: UFC 30--the first fight when we owned the company--we're in the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, we sold like 3,000 tickets in a 5,000-seat arena and the rest were comps. We did a gate of like $110,000 or something in that ballpark. We come back and do it again at UFC 31. Our next fight, we go from the Trump Taj Mahal to the Meadowlands.
We lost $2.4 million on that show. We put billboards up all over New York and New Jersey; we gave away a ton of tickets; we invited a lot of people from the cable systems; we had the press down there, other key people that we were making business deals with. When they showed up that night, the UFC looked like a big f---ing deal.
The place was packed, the music was rockin', and the fights were great that night. Was it the right decision? Look where we are today. Had it not worked, you would have said we burned $2 million that night, and it didn't make a difference.
...
Entrepreneur: At one point, Zuffa was $44 million in the hole. Was there ever a time when you thought maybe you should cut your losses?
White: Yeah, we were nervous a few times. One day I'm sitting in my office and Lorenzo calls me. He says, "This is crazy, and this thing keeps losing money. Why don't you go out there and see what you can get for this thing right now."
So I get on the phone and started calling around, and I found someone to buy it for $6 or $7 million. So I called Lorenzo back and said, "I think I got about $6 or $7 million for this thing."
He says, "Alright, I'll call you tomorrow." The next day he calls me, and he's like, "F--- it; let's keep going." And here we are.

My question is, does it account the PPV buys from Canada, Australia, an other parts of the world? If he is JUST reporting the US PPV Sales, than it makes sense, plus the additional buys, could make it closer to Toms estimate.

Holy shit!
Here's cagepotato sources for suggesting there were less than 100,000 buys: Subscribers to Dave Meltzer’s “Wrestling Observer” relayed the following tidbit from the latest issue via the Sherdog forums
Journalism has hit a new low. Yeah, I am not going to take the word of some subscribers who post on Sherdog forums. That is unbelievable. Cagepotato is a tabloid rag at best with journalism like that.

It came from Dave Meltzer on his Wrestling Observer site, not some random poster

Meltzer is one of the most respected and credible journalists in all of MMA. If Meltzer says it, there's a very good chance it is true. You're not taking the word of some Sherdogger, you'd be taking the word of a proven journalist.
