I've noticed that when female MMA fans discuss their favorite male MMA fighters, the "looks" of the fighter come heavily into the equation (e.g. Shogun, Vitor).
It's entirely natural that when male MMA fans discuss their favorite female fighters, "looks" will play a part, just when female MMA fans discuss their favorite male fighters, "looks" will matter. This fact is a part of our biology and will never go away.
So I do believe that the "looks" of a female fighter will always play a role in how promoters market the sport to male fans, just the same way that as the female MMA fanbase develops, promoters will surely market the "handsome" male MMA fighters to them.
The key is just to find the right balance, so that any attention paid to a fighter's "looks" never overshadows the primary discussion of the fighter's athleticism or expertise.

I think you just said the exact same thing I said.

Essentially we agree, though my reasoning is a bit different. I just wanted to make the point that for female fans, the "looks" of the male fighters are important, so there shouldn't be anything wrong in the reverse situation - male fans in relation to female fighters.
Some fans of feMMA seem to think that it is entirely objectionable for any discussion about feMMAists to refer to "looks," or that such a discussion is at best a distasteful and necessary evil (which your post seemed to imply).
My view is that promotion of a fighter's looks is more than a necessary evil - it's something entirely natural to be embraced as part of smart marketing.
Though my reasoning may be different from yours, in the end, we reach the same conclusion, which is that promotion of a fighters that "look good" will inevitably be a part of feMMA (and a part of male MMA when the female fanbase grows), but that such kinds of promotion should NEVER overshadow a fighter's skill and athleticism, whether that fighter is male or female.

I don't have a problem with looks coming into the equation.
What I do have a problem with is people who are ONLY interested in a female fighters looks, and really don't give a t*ss about female MMA, such as the poster who suggested that Carano was already at the "top" because of her marketability. I also have a problem with fighters who don't get the respect they're due because they don't conform to a "feminine" image.
As you said yourself, looks shouldn't overshadow skill and athleticism. That's my only real issue with the whole thing.
Basically, though, I think I'm agreeing with you...

MIKU being a superior grappler to Hisae, I imagine the bout looked like Watanabe/Ham except MIKU gets the sub. The way I see it, Ham loses to a lot of the 48kg talent except for Hisae due to style match, where Hisae's a lesser striker than Ham but doesn't have th gusto on the ground yet to have any other option.

I have watched the FeMMA fights on Bodog (Tama Chan is cool) and they were pretty entertaining actually but as far as knowing about it...
JayOliver = FeMMA noob
So if ya'll could answer a couple of FAQ style questions I'd appreciate it...
1. What are the weightclasses in FeMMA? Are Erin Toughill and Carano considered HW's?
2. In terms of Rules do they just vary everywhere? Bodog seems to be the same as mens but Smackgirls is like Rings when it comes to GnP? Length of rounds are usually two minutes or five?
3. Anybody do rankings out there? P4P who are top tier female fighters out there? I've heard the Megumi Fuji is a beast but that's all I know.

For those who don't give a f*ck about women's MMA, but just think Gina is hot, I'm sure you'll find a "Gina Carano for prom queen" thread somewhere else on the forum.

Discussing the most marketable female mmaer is just as relevent as anything else in a WOMENS MMA THREAD. Nice try at trying to be a prick though

Man, i wish you had phrased that differently, It's taking all of my strength to not make an off-color remark!! But only because I looove her!
She could do very well and pave the way for other women. She has the looks of a very marketable fighter, and by that i mean she is very hot AND a great fighter. Right now I would definitely say that she is the one to open the doors for female mma to be more accepted in the U.S. and for the women to get more $$$$. Now she is training at Couture's, so that can only help as well. The key seems to be getting the UFC to accept women's mma, since they currently are the big kid on the block.
