**THE LATEST NEWS**
We're close to knowing the when and where of Jay's next fight. Jay's updated us on page 2, saying that some things are in the works.
In other news, Jay's website is no longer up and running. Not sure why but it's not too big of a deal; the website was/is quite outdated.
Oh and there is another fighter who goes by the name of Jay White. He's a LW who recently fought another 155 pounder named Josh Freeman. Hope that clears up any confusion that arose.

BIOGRAPHY
Many of you have never even heard of Jay White so lemme give you some background on him.
Jay White was born in Troy, NY. He would study BJJ in NYC with Renzo Gracie then take his knowledge back upstate as he opened up the only BJJ school within a 40 mile radius of the Albany/Schenectady/Troy area of Upstate NY. Jay would go on to enter the Marines where he became a CQC instructor.
Whilst becoming a solid BJJ Purple belt under Renzo he studied boxing at Albany City Boxing on Quail St. and also at Sweeney's in Delmar, eventually turning into pro. Eventually he got a phone call from RANDY COUTURE who asked Jay to come on out to Team Quest in Oregon. He and his soon-to-be wife ended up moving out there where Jay became one of the Team' Quest grappling instructors/coaches. During his Team Quest days he developed a decent bond with a number of fighters, notably Chael Sonnen.
Putting it bluntly, Jay's MMA career has not been too successful. With a record of 1-5 with 1 No Contest (

), he decided it was time to take a break from fighting. It should be noted though that every fighter whose beaten Jay is a veteran of BIG shows (every fighter whose beaten Jay has fought in the UFC except Mark Burch who has fought in Bodog; so the competition that's beaten him has definitely proven themselves elsewhere to get where they've gotten today).
Jay went on to a career as a personal trainer. Eventually he entered into professional bodybuidling where he won an Open Weight competition. Soon after though, Randy Couture gave him another phone call and asked him to come down to Xtreme Couture and help out with some grappling training. He was brought in specifically for Randy because of Randy's upcoming match with Gabriel Gonzaga. Jay ended up joining Xtreme Couture permanently as a grappling coach/instructor when he and the family moved to Las Vegas.
And NOW, Jay is making a return to MMA at HDNet Fights. He's been training hard at Xtreme Couture with Randy, Pyle, and plenty of others. His opponent Patrick Castillo is most likely the favorite (with a win over UFC veteran Sherman Pendergarst). Hopefully the road back to MMA will be a more successful one this time around for Jay.

I once met Jay White. He used to regularly eat at this Italian place where I was a cook. His specialty dish of Grilled Chicken in Marinara was something I had made dozens of times. Only after he left for Oregon did I realize who he was or that he was a fighter (it turns out, I was acquaintances with a number of people who have boxed with him). When he came back for the holidays, I went up and talked to him. A real nice guy, family man, Hopefully, he'll realize his potential and make his mark.
Jay White's the only fighter to come out of my hometown and make it as a pro fighter. It's great to see him back on track and let's hope he continues his success.
So COME ON!!! Hop on the bandwagon before it takes off. There's so much room.
POTPOURRI
Here's some interesting facts, tidbits, and quotes (his website has a decent biography but this stuff is a bit more obscure):
-Competed in the 2005 ADCC in the 99+ Kilos division. Lost to Marcio Corelletta by triangle choke with a reverse armbar. Here's what Jay had to say about his ADCC experience:
"I was honored just to be invited. I’d love to go back and show what I can actually do. I don’t know if it was nerves got the best of me in that last one but it was a great experience and great honor."
-was originally slated to face Fabiano Scherner for the Sportfight HW championship at Sportfight 12 but Scherner backed out after getting a call to fight in the UFC (where he fought a debuting Brandon Vera). This was the first ever SportFight Heavyweight Championship match. His opponent was changed to a teammate of Jeff Monson.
-In his second fight against Monson, he was slated to face one of Monson's teammates after Scherner backed out, but the teammate was hurt, so Jeff stepped in.
-was supposed to fight Alex Roberts at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. That match was planned for 11/5/2005 but never panned out. At the time, Roberts was the 4th ranked Pancrase Super Heavyweight.
-Awhile back, Chael Sonnen was asked if Jay's move to Team Quest has had an impact on the team. Chael replied,
"Yeah, he has had a positive effect. He is very good at jiu-jitsu, really good at kneebars and leglocks. A little bit different element; we don’t work a whole lot of leg attacks. He is really great at staying after practice and going over stuff. Jay is a great addition, I’m glad he is here and would be disappointed if he moved back."
-Jay White's comeback fight was initially supposed to be against Corey Salter. The match was supposed to take place 11/3/2007 in Austin, TX (I believe the event was called King of Kombat). The match never took place (not sure why).
-Couture has gone on record as saying White's lack of success in his career was a result of mismanagement.
-Fought Jake O'Brien outside, under a tent, while it was raining.

JAY'S NEXT FIGHT
HDNet
had a card tentatively scheduled for February 15th. Although not set in stone, it was looking like Jay would've had a fight on that card. However, rumors of the card being canceled started to surface. Soon after, the card was taken off of the HDNet fights website and Mark Cuban
confirmed that the event was off (yes, that is the real Mark Cuban on Sherdog responding to people's threads. According to himself, he was a lurker for quite some time).
It's not set in stone but it looks like HDNet's next show will be in April. Jay will "probably" be fighting then. HDNet's website has announced the upcoming StrikeForce, IFL and MFC cards but no word on the next HDNet Fights card. Mark Cuban is always pretty good about keeping the MMA community informed and he's said in the past that people should feel free to shoot him an e-mail. Looking for the latest Jay White news, I did just that. Cuban had this to say when I asked him about the rumored April HDNet Fights card.

A quick thanks to Mark Cuban for responding in the first place. Very neat to see someone so approachable. As of late, Jay told us in this thread that he's "got some things in the works". As always, when we hear something more, we'll update this thread accordingly.
