Icon2 Official Aussie MMA News Thread

Just thought i would update all the Australians on whats been happening on the local scene. All the news of course can be discussed and found at http://www.infinitemma.com

Firstly, young 17 year old Gold Coast fighter Jacob 'JJ' Sidic will be fighting on the upcoming MARS promotion in Japan. The fight card will feature 'Shaolin' Ribeiro on the main event. Jacob is currently in Japan sparring at the RJW gym with the likes of Caol Uno when he impressed the visiting promoter. Jacob will also be fighting against Adrian Pang for the under 65 Spartan title.

In XFC news, Matt Te Paa will be dropping down to under 65 kgs and fighting the current Under 65 XFC title holder Steve Gillinder. Jason Wildchild will be fighting for a XFC Under 70 title against a overseas opponant on the Rising Promotions fight card. Rising promotions = Oceania k1 max representative with great contacts in Japan. Promters are looking for a overseas opponant to take on Shooto ranked fighter, Daniel Lima.

In what will be one of the most anticipated rematches in Australian MMA history, BJJ Black Belt George Sotiropolous (spelling?) will take on Kyle Noke for Kyle's Warriors Realm Cage fighting Championship Belt. Warriors Realm has also signed a partnership with IFC.

King of the Cage Down Under is scheduled for Penrith Panthers League club, will feature a Australia vs USA event. James Tehunna will take on James Lee for the Light Heavyweight KOTC World Title. Tony Bonello will also take on UFC veteran Bobby Hoffman in a heavyweight bout.

2006 is looking good for Australian MMA. Support it. You support the local scene and that way the promoters can get bigger better fighters out here. SUPPORT IT!!!

i hear good things about Bonello.

If he can beat Hoffman, hopefully he gets more offers to fight better fighters at bigger events.

Tony Bonello: I've heard a lot about him. Do you think he'll ever compete in UFC or Pride? If so, how successful do you think he'd be?

At the time I was in the military training with the 7th Royal Cav. outside of Rockhampton. I also visited Gladstone. I drank way too much Bundaberg rum while I was there!

From all reports iv heard that Bonello is an absolute machine. Really hasnt fought anyone to prove it at the moment. Although Hoffman has last his last two fights, i think it will be Bonello's toughest fight to date. After fighting at lighter weights, he has decided to go back up and fight heavyweights.

Wonder what he will weigh in at.

For local fans, i think that the Brad Morris vs Big Jim fight on the same card will entertain. Both big guys slugging it out. Also watch out for James Tehunna.
