Nick's weight

A lot of speculation on this and none of it is right. Here's what happened. At 9:30 AM Nick informs me that he is having trouble making weight. Speculated that after accidentaly ingesting salt water on an ocean swim he had gotten sick and was finding it hard to cut the remaining last few pounds. Nick takes great pride in being a professional and has always made weight in his mma career and grappling tournaments so this was really bothering him. A couple of hours later he is at 167.5 and it is obvious he is not making the weight. I figure at best he could make 164 but then he would be exhausted and still fined by EliteXC. Better to stay where he's at.
Nick on his own reaches out to Mushin and his camp and explains the situation. Apologizes and asks to make it at the next weight up and offers to compensate from his purse. They agree and after explaining the situation to EliteXC everyone agrees. If Nick had weighed in over weight the fight would still have happened regardless with Nick losing probably anywhere from 10-12% of his purse. This way Nick paid out of pocket more than that and Mushin will receive more money than his fight purse. That's why Mushin came in over the weight also.
Again, Mushin is being paid a significant sum directly from Nick's fight purse. Since Mushin agreed should there really be an issue over this?

Appreciate you taking the time to clear all of this up. Good luck to your camp in the future.

heres whats weird, cesar.

like you said nick ALWAYS makes weight. but he looked like something was up before and after the scale. he was abnormally quiet at the press conference yesterday, and now this excuse?

nick is my favorite fighter and that will never change.... but do you expect us to believe he drank 7 lbs of salt water?

whats really going on? is he depressed? injured? whats up , seriously?

so he's sick from the salt water? are we to expect a lackluster performance out of him because of this?

It makes sense, since Nicks gotta keep changing weight classes, since it was agreed before the weigh-ins, I have no beef with it.

The swimming salt water thing is bit hard to believe(but possible) . But good on Nick for going to Mushin and offering him compensation. Nick looked depressed at the weigh in, he looked disappointed in himself for not being able to make weight. I knew something was up.

And thank you Cesar Gracie for informing us of the situation.

yeah just another day at the office, perfectly believeable story

he goes swimming , swallows a gallon of salt water, doesnt almost die or need rescued, now hes sick

this is a flimsy story, give us something more believeable than that

especially if youre gonna make an announcement about it, have a good story in place at least

i think the kid is depressed

Thanks for the clarification. And thanks for helping to create 4 of my favorite fighters (Nick, Nate, Gil and Jake).
