A look at Brock Lesnar and other Wrestlers in MMA

I'm new to this forumn so don't chew me out for starting a thread on my fist post

This is in response to the recent Brock Lesnar thread claiming he is nothing more than a "Pro" wrestler.

I thought I would look up some of the notable wrestlers in MMA and compare their sucess as amateurs.

Brock Lesnar
4 x All-American
2x Big Ten Champ.
2000 NCAA DI Champ (287 lbs.)

Randy Couture (0 national championships)
3 x Olympic team alternate
2000 semifinalist Olympic Trials
3 x All-American
2 x NCAA DI Runner up (190 lbs.)

Mark Kerr
1 x All-American
1992 NCAA DI Champ. (190 lbs. he beat Randy Couture in the champ match)

Mark Coleman
2 x Mid-American Conf. Champ
1988 NCAA DI Champ (190 lbs.)
1992 Olympics 7th place

Matt Hughes (note 0 national championships)
2 x All-American (8th, 5th, 158 lbs.)

Kevin Randleman
3 x All-American (2nd, 1st, 1st)
3 x Big Ten Champ.
2 x NCAA DI Champ 1992, 1993, 177lbs.)

Josh Koscheck
4 x All-American ( 4th, 2nd, 1st, 3rd)
2001 NCAA DI Champ. (174 lbs.)

Dan Severn
4 x All-American

Don Frye.... Trained under Severn. 0 All-Americans.
Frank Trigg 2000 Olympic trials finalist. 0 All-Americans

I'd say Lesnar is up to snuff.

He is one big dude. We'll see what he's got when he signs and fights some big names. I'm all for him fighting, I can't rule him out just yet, because he is a freak of nature.

Once we see him fight some real competition, we can truly judge him.

I agree with the comparisons, but there has been even bigger "name" wrestlers who weren't that great at MMA....

No shit! even Rulon Gardner Kevin Jackson and Royce Alger weren't that bad either. I can see missing the last guys because Rulon fought in Pride and Kevin Jackson and Royce Alger fought in pre zuffa ufc and I am not giving you shit but I am guessing that you were probably introduced to MMA with the "Dana White" era of UFC and the Ultimate fighter series (nothing wrong with that either way, it did wonders for opening the eyes of North America to the greatest sport) but Dan Henderson and Matt Lindland both are pretty current fighters with big names.
