K-1 HERO'S 5/3 - Weigh In Results
from http://completevaletudoaccess.blogspot.com:
Quote:
Today, at the Hotel Metropolitan, in Tokyo, Japan, the weigh ins for the May 3rd's K-1 HERO'S card were held.
The weigh ins only covered those fighters who were meeting in fights with weight contracts, meaning that fighters such as Antonio Silva, Akebono, Don Frye and Tom Erikson did not weigh in. Also, foreigners Gilbert Melendez and Gesias Calvancanti, who are set to compete in the HERO'S Middleweight Grand Prix, also did not weigh in for the event, as they had not yet arrived in Japan. All other fighters weighed in, and successfully made weight, including former 83 kilogram fighter Hidetaka Monma. It was rumored prior heading into tomorrow's HERO'S event that Monma, who is said to walk around between 85 and 87 kilograms, may not be able to make weight for the event. Monma successfully weighed in at 69.1 kilograms, with almost a full kilogram to spare.
Most eyes were on the main eventers of the evening, Sydney Games Olympian Kazuyuki Miyata and 2005 HERO'S Middleweight Grand Prix Champion Norifumi "KID" Yamamoto. Miyata weighed in at 69.6 kilograms, and was in great in shape, but it was Yamamoto who drew specific attention from K-1 Producer Sadaharu Tanigawa. Tanigawa remarked about KID's size: "KID" competes at 70 kilograms, yet he cannot add more muscle or weight to his frame, and weighed in at 64.4 kilograms. When he and Miyata stood face to face, the former Olympian was much noticeably larger than Yamamoto. Tanigawa remarked that the size didn't matter, and said that "KID" is anew, and may very well repeat as champion in this year's Middleweight Grand Prix.

Bad news: Some sources seem to be indicating Gilbert is OUT, and will be replaced by Rany Yahya. More news when it gets in.

War ANTONIO. Stepping up to the big league.
Also facing a great wrestler. His biggest test to date. Someone as big as him.
Guess we'll see if he's the real deal

Okay... big changes. From http://completevaletudoaccess.blogspot.com :
Quote:
K-1 has now announced a number of last minute changes to tomorrow's card at Yoyogi National Stadium's First Gymnasium.
First, undefeated Gilbert Melendez of the Cesar Gracie Team has pulled out of the HERO'S Middleweight Tournament, due to a leg injury. Stepping in on last minute's notice will be Brazilian jiu jitsu black belt Rani Yahira, who since his Japanese debut in December, is 2-0, defeating Takumi Yano and another HERO'S Middleweight Grand Prix competitor, Taiyo Nakahara. Weighing in on short notice, Yahira tipped the scales at 71.5 kilograms, 1.5 kilograms over the limit. Accordingly, he will be afforded another weigh in to make proper weight.
Sumo-turned-fighter Wakashoyo was scheduled to fight RINGS veteran Yoshihisa Yamamoto, but Yamamoto has been ordered by doctor's not to compete due to a strained back. Yamamoto will be replaced by PRIDE veteran Kazuhiro Hamanaka, who competed only two weeks ago in Hawaii, defeating local favorite Wesley "Cabbage" Correira at Rumble on the Rock 9 by submission.
Also, HERO'S Middleweight Grand Prix Gesias Calvancanti has not yet weighed in.
