Interview with Swedish Welterweight, Diego Gonzalez

Quote:
21-year old, Diego Gonzales cut his teeth at a young age in the world of MMA, travelling all over Scandanavia to compete and gain experiance. Bouncing back from a couple of early losses, Diego went on a tear, submitting 3 opponents in a row to earn a shot on UK based promotion, Cage Warriors. After a win and a loss against Dan Hardy, Diego most recently came back to win a unanimous decision over tough Icelander, Arni Isaksson.

What is your background in martial arts?

Have been training grappling and mma for about 6 years. Last 3 years serious.

What is the MMA scene like in Sweden?

It's becoming more popular all the time. I have no idea about numbers but you can clearly see its growing in popularity.

What does the new law mean for amateur muay thai and shootfighting? Is there any changes?

it's hard to say, but it's supposed to be possible to get a permit for any kind of event if the new rule sets are followed, what the new rulesets are i don't know and because the people who choses who will get permits and who won't, are 50year old geezer's who doesn't know shit about any sports except soccer, so i would be chocked if anything harder than tkd would be allowed

Thanks, hope its not as bad as it seems. CW is doing a great job promoting scandinavian/european talent. Keep up the good work!

Thanks we trying very hard to promote European fighters and have been wokring a lot with scandinavian guys, who are very tough, easy to work with and always come to fight.

Hopefully we'll be on TV out in Scandinavia soon as well and you can see some of Diego's fights
