Idea for Smaller Show for Under 145lbs.
PRIDE does not have a weight class for the 145 & under guys, but they have done a lot to try an get there. But they are more about entertainment first, sport 2nd.
The UFC is the opposite, therefore they have less of an excuse...especially since it was them that created the official weight classes of:
Super HeavyWeight Over 263
Heavyweight 205-263
Lt.Heavyweight 185-205
Middleweight 170-185
Welterweight 155-170
Lightweight 145-155
Featherweight 135-145
Bantamweight 125-135
Flyweight 125 & Under
So they should be more accountable than PRIDE (for showcasing fighters under 155lbs.) They already have the weight classes, they just chose not to showcase the fighters.
I think they should add a "Light Flyweight" class of under 115lbs. and start a smaller show in Hawaii...for mainly fighters under 145lbs.
They could even make a TUF Hawaii show. Bring in fighters from Japan, Guam, The Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, Mexico, etc.
This would give the smaller guys the exposure and introduce the fans to more exciting and action packed fights.
If it was only SHOOTO guys it might get a bit too boring in a lot of fights, but if they add some mix of Muay Thai/MMA fighters from Thailand, Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, etc., it should spice things up nicely.
They could even start-off with all B-Class type fighters, and use the TUF show to show how they develope into more skilled A-Class fighters.
If people love to watch that hairy dog, bounty hunter haole guy, just because he's in Hawaii, then how much more would they love to tune in to a show about MMA fighting & fighters?
This would work if someone has the balls to do it.
I have a hundred more ideas like this in my head. i just thought this one up now.
Anyone listening?

I know there are alot of smaller fighters here in hawaii man,
but you gotsta face it they can't make the bigtime, they are too little, we got tyson nam, Kikuchi, and all those other talents, but it was already a stretch for the UFC to re-include the lightweight class. And pride has bushido, but the weights don't go that low either.

In my opinion, that is wishful thinking, mainly because it would really hurt Marketing in the beginning, i'm sure the result would be better faster, action packed, international fights, but to me it's not even worth it.

Why not get small furry animals in there as well for another novelty angle....
Its ok to spout ideas but think them through - the UFC didnt invent weight classes did it..
TUF Hawaii - I am sure Dana is kicking himself for not thinking of that - after all with its huge population and male mma interested demographic viewing figures would go through the roof..
To be honest they are probably better off spending money swelling the divisions they already have without worrying about new ones just yet...

Uh, excuse me oh great and knowledgable one...but in SHOOTO the weight classes go all the way down to 114lbs....
...and they are the largest and oldest MMA organization in the world.
Why am i always surrounded by such incredible geniuses?

"Faber competed six times in multiple organizations in 2006, and this looks to be another big year for the 145-pound fighter. Faber talks about his contract status with Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting, his upcoming WEC title defense versus Joe Pearson (Pictures)"
YES! YES! YES!
The Featherweights (145lbs) have arrived!
