HDNet is doing just fine. HBO has only 28mm subscribers. They seem to be doing OK as well. They started in 1976 and are at 28mm... wont take us as long. I promise !

LOL....no, but I couldn't pass that up.
Many times Sherdoggers talk as if they know, when really, they don't.

Here's what it takes with Comcast -
Digital cable + an HD package + HD box(es) + installation = something ridiculous, esp. compared to the cost for simple, basic analog cable. Given you're getting less than 20 stations, most with limited content, few will find it worthwhile. Don't forget that Comcast makes the QAM (free) HD programming nearly worthless (did you even know about it?) by shoving the stations into a range you won't find on your own, providing no guide data and periodically shifting channels around. Best of all, if Comcast would probably love to reclaim all that analog bandwidth but they're too stupid to simplify and cut the cost of digital cable to something that makes the switch worthwhile.
I'd bet most people are looking for ways to reduce or limit their relationship with their cable provider, which unfortunately makes HD programming a much tougher sell than it needs to be.

Excellent post. (and no I didn't know about the the free QAM programming). I've been thinking of getting rid of Comcast for Direct tv(one of the reasons is HDnet).

Yeah that was bullshit, but Tim is really training for the Nathan's famous hot dog eating contest in coney island and you can click this link as MY source.

Cuban losing hundreds of thousands of dollars is like me losing a nickel if I made about 300k more than I do now.

Mark Cuban seems to have a good business plan but he has a hell of a long way to go before he can even get on a exposure level with crappy cable channels like Spike tv. Mark Cuban is gambling on his specific High Definition tv network, High definition may one day be in every household but that doesn't mean that HDnetwork ever will be, HD tv growth and HDnetwork growth are separate issues.
As far as how long the current equipment will last, the law is they are changing to digital transmission not HD broadcasting. SD tvs are still going to work for the forseeable future(legacy technology does not equate to obsolete technology) and it will probably be another decade+ before HD tvs are in everyone's home. Hell SDtvs are still selling at a quicker rate than HDtvs, the only thing the new law changed was that SDtvs have to have a digital conversion box installed in them. There seems to be a lot of confusion over this but rest assured the standard television set isn't going anywhere any time soon, the only thing that is changing is how they broadcast the tv signal.
here is a interesting article on the subject: http://www.thatcorp.com/WBZ-letter.html

were you the guy that told me networking was too far in the future when I started MicroSolutions ? And that audio and video on the net had no future because radios and tvs worked just fine before we started AudioNet and then turned it into broadcast.com ?
Im in no rush.
Ive been in positions where i have been out front with people shooting arrows in my back . With MMA , Im the guy in the tailwind. No rush on my part.
I like my odds. Again. Nothing is a given. But i like being the underdog.
This is the way I see MMA. The best hasnt even begun to surface. Kids are just now growing up as MMA athletes as opposed to having excelled at one given discipline and moved into MMA. Those kids will have a completely different expectation of what MMA is and how to enter the sport and compete
i've learned a thing or two from the NBA, good and very bad about how kids grow into a pro sport. it will be interesting to see if it pays dividends

Yes Sherdoggers think they are know it all's a lot of them seem to not have a grasp on the world outside of their own small personal orbit. They also seem to be on the combative side and sometimes are a bit sketchy on context.
