Is Gomi Overrated?
When he fought BJ he got destroyed totally dominated the entire fight. And i no that it was b4 his Pride days but still. Do you think that there would be any difference if they fought 2day?

No I don't think it would be any different. In order for it to be different Gomi would have had to make incredible strides in his grappling, wrestling, and striking...all of which presumes BJ has stagnated in his abilities and could be knocked out, which is Gomi's best chance.
Course, this doesn't make Gomi overrated. If it's a testament to anything, it's a testament to Penn's abilities.
Meanwhile, Gomi has beaten Kawajiri, Ishida, Mach, Ludwig, and several other solid fighters. So no, he is not overrated.

Unless it happens, I would have to say that any judgment would be mostly conjecture. Most people would say that BJ has gotten much better in the meantime, and that's a valid opinion to hold.
Of course, the only fact is that Gomi has won more at LW and beaten more top LWs than BJ.
I would give the fight to BJ unless he chooses to stand with Gomi (in that case it'd be a toss up tho maybe slightly in Gomi's favor). Still, you can't take Gomi's accomplishments away from him even though he's lost a couple of fights recently.

overrate or not, to me Gomi is one of the best LWs in history, he has worked hard since his Shooto days, he has defeated great fighters, in his Pride days he has unstoppable, he earned fighter of the year by Sherdog, he is definitely one of the most exciting fighters at LW, what else... I mean the guy has earned it. Anyone that doesn´t agree on Gomi being one the best LWs in all history of MMA is way out of his mind.

Not so much overrated, but he got a few breaks.
Break 1 being Penn's departure from Lightweight.
Break 2 being the 160 lbs limit used by Pride.
Break 3 being a close avenged loss to Aurelio
Break 4 being Nick Diaz's positive marijuana test

To me Gomi is like Hughes before he lost to GSP. Both were dominant for the longest time and even though they're not as dominant in the division, they've both done so much you gotta give them credit. Soon I imagine Gomi will fall from the #1 spot too and I hope it's from fighting the next LW contender and not due to inactivity from not fighting ranked fighters.
Here's to hoping....

Do yourself a favor and watch his LW fights in PRIDE and decide for yourself. During his PRIDE days, Gomi was one of the most fun fighters to watch in all of MMA (and even in his loss to Diaz he was exciting).
I know a lot of American fans who're not into international MMA so much hate on him a lot on the forums, but IMO he really encapsulates the type of MMA that the UFC (for instance) would really appreciate. He's got the energetic brawling style and good wrestling skills that would suit the Octagon well. Maybe that's why DW invited him to a few UFC events.
