A few questions about Mark Kerr
Does anyone know when he started and how long he trained in sub grappling? When he first started MMA did he have any sub training or was he just a pure wrestler? Did he have any formal BJJ training and if so what was his rank? I'm curious because I know he was a multiple ADCC winner yet I have never heard of him training in BJJ, catch or anything with submissions.
Thanks for your time.

Sorry, I'm not really sure. But I would think that his superhuman strength and outstanding wrestling pedigree alone would have given him a great ability to take guys down, pass guard, and score points. He didn't get one submission in the 1999 ADCC, winning all his matches by decision. Also, the competition wasn't as deep back then. In 1999, Tra Telligman, Travis Fulton, and this guy ( http://www.sherdog.com/fighter/Rocky-Batastini-577) all competed.

he was a college wrestler, and trained with bas rutten, and the hammer house.
when he first started fighting MMA in brazil, he was a pure wrestler. he knows lots of subs, but he isn't that great in BJJ. he has a thorough set of instructionals which dictate lots of submissions and wrestling technique.
get his documentary, (i forget the name, it's slipping my tongue) it tells alot about him. and if you can, find his instructionals too.

Yup. When he first started he had no formal submission training at all. Wrestling, and fighting with his brother was his background (according to his brother, in said documentary).

Mark Kerr was an absolute physical specimen. He was a leaner, more explosive Brock Lesnar, which is saying something when you consider how explosive Brock Lesnar is for a 274 pound man. He was the first of his kind... it's a damn shame what happened to him.

I really thought at one stage Kerr would dominate the sport. Its a shame his problems got on top of him.
Bas was training him to be much more well rounded so in a way as a great wrestler who began learning and using the other aspects of MMA he was something of a prototype.
