Catch his last fight on ProElite.com as the undercard of the PRIMETIME CBS under card.
He puts on one of the most spectacular BJJ clinics in an MMA match.
Fighting out of his adopted hometown of Philadelphia, the high-energy Reis set up roots in the “City of Brotherly Love” training and instructing at two of the city’s top MMA and BJJ Academies, Daddis Fight Camps and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu United.
Having already established himself as a top competitive grappler in Brazil after winning the brown belt division at the Mundials in 2004, Reis transitioned into MMA while in the U.S. After several successful amateur fights, Reis made his pro debut in 2007.
Comments about Reis:
Quote:
"His enormous talent and potential sticks out like a sore thumb," added Jordan Breen, a writer and radio talk show host with Sherdog.com. "I'm always acutely interested in MMA prospects, but I generally try to restrain from being enthusiastic; this sport is one in which prospects can really crash and burn dramatically. Yet, I find it extremely hard not to be outright excited about Reis' potential as a fighter. He's like dynamite incarnate."
Reis' performances in his last two wins have gotten many hardcore fans of the sport excited. There have been several threads on some of MMA's biggest message forums discussing Reis as a future challenger to current WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber -- one who could potentially defeat him and supplant him as the No. 1-ranked featherweight in the sport.
But is it too early to talk about Faber and Reis in the same sentence? It's a question without an easy answer.
"It's hard to say how he stacks up among the world's best at 135 or 145 pounds," said Breen. "We are, after all, talking about a guy with only four fights. However, he hasn't just won those four fights, he's absolutely trounced his opposition. Justin Robbins is a decent, middle-of-the-road 135-pounder and Reis just destroyed him. It would be a tad premature to start dreaming of clashes with (Miguel) Torres or Faber, but he's definitely a guy who appears to have all the potential to be a star in the lower weight classes."
NAME: Rafael Cavalcante NICKNAME: Feijao
HOMETOWN: Iha Solteira, Brazil
AGE: 28
HEIGHT: 6'1"
WEIGHT: 205
STYLE: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai
RECORD: 6-1
CAMP: Team Nogueira and Black House (Anderson Silva).
STORY: Rafael Feijao’s introduction to MMA was one of a kind. Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira happened to be in Feijao’s hometown in Brazil on business. He was looking to squeeze in some training and asked a few locals if they could recommend someone that would be good to train with. Without pause, they recommended Feijao.
Trained by his father in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since a young age, Feijao had a basement that doubled as a training area. Nogueira and Feijao trained together and the current heavyweight champion was so impressed with Feijao’s skills that he invited him to start training MMA with him. The rest is history, or should we say, the future?
In addition to outstanding grappling credentials holding a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Feijao’s striking is starting to make major strides under the tutelage of middleweight champion Anderson Silva. With Nogueira as your grappling coach and Silva as your striking coach, how can you go wrong? After having moved from heavyweight to light heavyweight, Feijao looked like a future top-ten fighter while making a successful EliteXC debut this past February.

Also on the card:
Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos and Marlon Mathias from Chute Boxe.
Great post!
Thanks for this. I bet most people only know that Lawler vs Smith and Nick Diaz are fighting on Saturday. They should look at all the talent on the card.
EliteXC definitely have solid talent, they just need to continue marketing these guys on ProElite, Showtime and CBS and they are going to become big time stars.

Absolutely! They have some good talent, specially Brazilian, surprisingly.
Looking forward to the fights tomorrow!
