Dana has stated multiple times that he has no use for the fans, that's not the demographic he is going after. He wants to get the 18-34 year old male fans, and that's all he cares about.
Quote:
Growing the UFC brand:
The UFC is very popular among males 18-34, the demographic you specifically target. In order to compete against other leagues, you are going to have to continue to grow your fan base. Do you have specific plans to attract women and fans from other demographics?
Dana White:
Yeah, obviously, I'm going after other demographics. Women isn't one of them. One of the things we've always said is we know what this is for -- it's for males 18-34. And if women watch, that's just gravy for us -- that's beautiful. And our female fan base has grown incredibly. But to go out and market toward women would be very expensive and not make much sense. But, I'm going after Hispanic and urban fans.

EliteXC is taking a different approach. They are promoting female fighters such as Gina Carano, Tonya Evinger, Julie Kedzie, Shayna Baszler. They are putting a female fight on almost every card now.
Also, if you look at the official EliteXC forum, half of the posters there are women, such as this thread where this EliteXC fighter is bitching because he doesn't get paid as much as Gina Carano and gets put on the undercard below her, and gets ridiculed for it

Very different from sherdog.
CBS is a network with a lot of shows that are primarily watched by women. If EliteXC wants to be successfull they will need to showcase female fighters that other women can identify with
It would be really funny if EliteXC was able to to end the UFC monopoly by getting on a primetime tv channel, and then bringing in female fans that Dana White is determined to ignore.
