They (UFC) still managed to convince a lot of us Ken was a threat to Tito, what a joke. Ken hasn't been competitive since last century, literally.
Don was 13-1 at the time (the only loss the one to Coleman) so it wasn't exactly seen as a seniors bout at the time. Ken came real close on some leglocks in that fight and I think I might have even scored it for him. Ken did whoop up on Fujita a couple fights previous before the heart issues as well. The first Tito/Ken fight wasn't anything spectacular, but it wasn't a completely one-sided joke either, on paper. Ken wasn't getting thrashed every time in back then.

But yeah, Ken/Tito II and III were both unnecessary. They fooled the casual fans on those two, which isn't hard. I know I wasn't fooled. Most fans just simply don't pay much attention to the sport and keep up with it to the degree we do. The same reason it was smart of EliteXC to go with Kimbo/Ken. The vast majority of the people who watch CBS haven't heard of Buzz Berry.

It doesn't matter what Don's record was, he was past his prime (as was Ken). Neither one of them were anywhere close to being top 10 in ANY weightclass. It was a fight based around nostalgia and bad blood. That's it.
Also, from what I remember, Tito made Ken look like a punching bag in that first fight. Ken may have had something for Tito during the 90's, but he had no business being in there with him in the 2000's. Tito at that time was the lhw champ no less. It was a mismatch.

Couldn't agree more. That is why Dana is succeeding with his plan to install a puppet regime of TUF fighters on the majority of his fight cards, and the casual fans buy it. Not that some solid talent hasn't come out of TUF, but Dana is using it to sign cheap, substandard labor and fill the under cards with it. Kind of like a Chinese children's sweatshop, but for MMA.

Ken Shamrock is hilarious, he sounds drunk as fuck. He doesn't care who you are, where you're from and who your family is, he's gonna beat you down and ask you questions later.

"Well.. uh.... I guess there is no tomorrow, because I really haven't thought of it." -Kenny Shamrock

Kimbo: "I've got the heart of a giant, and the power of 10 men"

Ken Shamrock: "Well kinda the way I see it I'm gonna go out there, I'm gonna be too fast for him. I hit hard, he's gonna eat a few of my punches, some leg kicks, a couple low kicks. He's gonna get tired, and then I don't
even have to take the guy down. He's gonna fall down!"

Kimbo: "Ken.. I'm gonna let you hit me."

Ken: "You will?"

Kimbo: "I'm gonna give you a shot, I'm a give you a chin shot ."

Ken: Uhh.. you guys heard that, every body heard that!"

Kimbo: "I'm giving you that, buddy"

background laughter

Ken: "Yeah ha.. and see that's why I'm the veteran and you're the rookie, because you're an idiot!"

laughter in background

Kimbo: "I didn't know he was a comedian"

----------------------------

Jared Shaw: "He's asking you if you respect his climb from being a street fighter to a big time MMA fighter"

Ken: "No, at this particular time I have no respect for him at all."

Kimbo: "And that's why you're an idiot"

Ken: "Well, I guess we'll find that out jabroni!"

Jared Shaw; "uh.. great. Operator"
