Dream 6 story and pictures Kharitonov and Alistair

Dream 6 Tokyo Japan 23-09-2008

These are busy days for Golden Glory, as 10 fighters are fighting within 1 week in three different shows in Japan and Korea. Kharitonov is ready to fight again after being away from the ring for 1 year and Alistair Overeem gets what he asked for: Mirko Cro Cop!

Kharitonov vs Jimmy Ambriz

First of all, it was very hard to convince Kharitonov to have a different opponent 2 days before the fight. Mighty Mo is a striker. Kharitonov prepared for this opponent and trained accordingly for Mighty Mo.
Instead he gets a wrestler two days notice before the fight and has to change his strategy completely.

Kharitonov almost knocks his opponent out, when Ambriz rises again from the bottom and pushes Kharitonov almost through the ropes. It was clearly impossible for Kharitonov to change his arm position when he had people from outside the ring grabbing his arm and the weight of his opponent (143 kg) pressed firmly against his body. For god sake Kharitonov went the distance with Nogeira and won his fight with Werdrum, its not that he is not comfortable on the ground!.
The ref could have given a warning - do not do this anymore. He should have given him a warning!!
Kharitonov did what he had to do and finished the fight with a KO, Kharitonov feels good training stand up in Holland and Thailand and is ready for the big boys again!

Winner by KO in round 1, Sergey Kharitonov Golden Glory Russia

Alistair Overeem vs Mirko Cro Cop

Alistair a fighter with heart came prepared ready to win this fight. He showed power and strength in both his stand up and ground game and he came to fight.

Alistair is very disappointed with the outcome of this fight. After reviewing the footage several times there are some outrageous decisions made in this fight.
The first one is that the referee stops the fight after the second take down of Alistair to wipe blood off the face of Mirko, at that moment Cro Cop was receiving some big shots from Alistair after he kicks Mirko and takes Mirko to the floor. The fight is stopped? And then some blood is wiped off the face of Mirko - and the ref resumes the fight in the same position in the center of the ring?
Mirko then receives a yellow card for stalling.
We can clearly see that Mirko’s fire and stamina is lacking and that he knows now Alistair is way stronger (he knew form the first few moments, it was clear to everybody watching). Mirko tries to fake a groin shot after Alistair knees him in the stomach (Mirko should have received his 2nd yellow card for that) The ref did not really see this and a miracle happened, Mirko kept fighting.
It is almost that he puts his hips forward on purpose to get hit in the balls, but the first time both fighters are kneeing and it is of no interest of Alistair to try to do this on purpose to Mirko as he is winning the fight.
However Alistair says to himself that he felt the groin protection and he agrees that he hit the groin of Mirko but only the first time. However we can clearly see this is not intentionally done!! Alistair immediately receives a yellow card for this.
The fight continues and Alistair is kneeing Mirko to the body/ head opening another cut above the other eye of Mirko who is now bleeding on both sides of his face and eyes. Again Mirko receives a devastating blow to the body and then both fighters again want to deliver a knee, however Alistair and me and a dozen others have watched the slow motion many times and we can see the upper right leg is hit from Mirko and not his groin. Then on one of the slow motion angles you can see Mirko grabs the other site of his groin, were he did not get hit at all????? From this angle you can see that the ref can not see this from his position.

We clearly saw at the beginning of the match Mirko faked a low blow. Very poor sportsmanship! He knew from the beginning he could not dominate Alistair. Mirko showed in this match he was desperate and Dream showed extreme unprofessionalism and favoritism. When Mirko was kneed in the stomach - before Alistair’s first yellow card. Mirko gets hit by a knee clearly in the stomach and then Mirko dramatically claims it were his groin, but realizes the ref did not see this, and he continues fighting.

Because of the situation mentioned above Mirko should be disqualified and have the yellow cards taken away from Alistair. After the first 5 minutes of the fight we can see that Mirko has nothing to say in the ring and is trying to survive and tries to win the match with lame excuses. Trying to give Alistair a card for a full blow to the stomach is just lame! Not the attitude a professional fighter should portray.

We know Mirko is very popular but this is fight business and not a popularity contest which favours the most favourite fighter. Alistair is young and growing as a heavy weight and this anticlimax after training so hard should not of been the outcome of this fight!

Finally, I would like to bring up a point about one of the rules of K-1 - it says, if you do not wear the groin cup from the organization and you get hit in the groin wearing your own groin guard and can’t continue the fight, the other fighter wins!

The first low blow may have caused damage and we hope Mirko recovers quickly .Although it is unlikely it would be appropriate to have a rematch. The quote from Sherdog says it all: Mirko got saved by the balls!
Not a bad start of the trip one ko victory from Sergey Kharitonov and Alistair Overeem showing the world he is a very dangerous heavyweight MMA fight and is a rising star!

With Sporting Greetings

Hm,

i didn't read it all, but i read some

and what I read was some bad stuff about Mirko, faking low blow

then, I wondered

who the hell is Bas Boon?

i didn't look him up, but I looked up "Golden Glory"

Guess what, it's Alistair's team

Talking about biased view...
