Cung's sidekicks

Did you see how well Cung used his sidekicks to control Frank? Frank was clearly frustrated, I guess his Muay Thai training from Maurice didn't prepare him for anything that odd. Better yet, the side kick transistioning into a back fist which got Frank a number of times. That was the first time I saw side kicks being used so effectively in MMA.

I long thought the roundhouse kick couldn't possibly be the only possible effective kick in MMA since other martial arts spent so many years developing other kicks. I think more utilization of the side kicks could be a refreshing change in the MMA game and possibly opens up way for other kicks and make things a lot more exciting. Thoughts?

sidekicks that hurt!, thrown over and over at the midsection will slow anybody down over the course of a long fight.

im sure those kicks "fazed" shamrock, it did slow him down alot and didn't let him close the distance to punch Cung.

Shamrock seemed to have gotten some of the better shots in the fight.

I think they were mostly used for keeping Shammy at distance. He didn't step into them too much.

Although I will say that one of those shots would've probably put me down. Then again, I'm not a pro fighter.

He scored a very good shot at the end of the 3rd but i'd say that was his only significant moment right there. Cung used his side kicks very well in the fight and controlled the tempo.

'Superglue!' Mark Coleman's suggestion, after Fedor got the big cut from Nog.

he got some good shots in that flurry at the end of round 3 and Cung was obviously a little worried since he was pretty much back pedaling from Shamrock.
