Can someone explain Affliction's business plan here?
I'm confused about Affliction. Is it basically a fighters' agent company? Do they just hire fighters and then get a cut of the pay when they fight somewhere? Are they a promotor or company that puts on events with their own fighters like the UFC?
With that Arlovski article, it says he could fight his 3 fights wherever he sees fit. How does this help Affliction if he doesn't fight on an Affliction card? It seems like a stupid business deal to me. I really hope UFC pays the man his money, but I'm confused about Afflictions business model here.
I also don't blame UFC for non-exclusives either. You think the Patriots want Brady to go play Canadian football and get hurt?

Man, I have absolutely no idea. I'd like to see all the information in one place so we can sort it out.

Looks like they are going the boxing promoter style company, for now. They prob work with the other companies so they split cost and the fighters they represent they will get more of that pay from the overall proceeds. THEN after a while they'll hopefully make money.

But they don't appear to get a cut of the fighters' pay like an agent do they? I guess they are must more of a promoter and the big benefit of allowing them to fight elsewhere is that they'd get their name mentioned....like when Diaz thanked EliteXC at Dream 3.

Affliction, like FEG and other companies are going to non-exclusive deals. Boxing is the same way. The only thing is, you have to fight X amount of fights under your contract. I imagine it's tied to some sort of time limit - afterall, what sense would it make if you sign Fedor to a fight contract, FEG or M-1 comes in and he fights back and forth with both organizations for the next 3 years only. That wouldn't make a lot of sense.
There is no such thing as a guaranteed contract anyhow. If the UFC doesn't like how you've performed, they can pretty much cut you at any time.

They may make money off the top leasing out fighters.
Eventually all will be known. We live in the information age afterall.
