In my opinion, Bas lost against Randleman. How that fight went to over time I'll never understand. There was not 5 seconds during the actual fight that Bas was winning, and even in the overtime, he got taken down at will. It was the worst decision in the history of UFC.

While I respect Bas for his contribution to MMA as a whole, I think he gets a lot more praise than his accomplishments deserve because he is just so damn likeable. That being said, he was a great fighter, and I definitely would want to scrap him in a bar (see his video).

If you take someone down and then they punch you in the face from their back twice, and you do nothing, they are winning. In the case of Bas vs Randleman it was about 50 unanswered elbows from Bas for every Randleman takedown.

I must say that I agree with a lot of what the OP has said about Bas.... but in his defense....

He did fight or try to fight the top competition of his day. Yes he did lose the fight to Randleman but he was also a lot more active. He also had a lot of courage not to quit that fight when his nose was broken/messed up and he fought even though he was seriously at risk during the fight. He may not have lost the fight or won the fight, but he fought and did not quit. Bas is a very good striker, good ground skills and a very nice all around type of fighter. He called out Rickson...who chose not to fight him. (I know Rickson...and the reason was simply money, not that he was afraid of Bas. In all honesty he would have owned Bas badly)

Also...Bas is a great guy in real life and one of the best announcers and trainers in the biz. Where Bas falls short on training, he makes up for it with other trainers that are experts. I think Bas is great for the sport and he would destroy 99% of the posters on this board...myself included. I also think that if Bas focused on BJJ and wrestling more his game would have been insane. He has the striking, but lacks the other elements to be elite.

First off Bas Rutten is a badass fighter and would be a legit challenge for any top level fighter at HWT.

Second what kind of trainer would Bas be if he talked down about Kimbo when people where sticking a mic in his face.

Third watch the show on the discovery channel about punches, kicks, and slams where they compare Bas's kicks to a car crash

Fourth Fedor is overrated and will lose sometime in the next year and a half if he actually fights a legit fighter
