Slightly Funny?
I'm all for the future success of FEG, and they have made some steps towards becoming a legit force on the mma scene. in particular Elite's signing of Jake Shields, Ninja, going after Vera (despite not getting him), etc.
However, this latest card that they are putting on is a farce. look at this objectively for a second.
we have:
- a WWE superstar
- a 7'2 asian fighter with 1 win to his name
- an ex NFL wideout
- two guys who have the respect of the ENTIRE MMA world, but who nobody for the most part is particullary interested in being active.
Given these facts and the fact that they are charging PPV prices for this event, does any one else find it at least mildly humorous/ bad karma that this is falling apart at the seems. This is a sideshow masquerading as a legit event.
What ya guys think

That 7'2 Asian with 1 win to his name was a K1 champ.

Well, that's marketing. They need SOMETHING to grab the attention, and once they've got proper viewership they can gradually switch to a more traditional fight card. I don't blame them.

But does this really get your attention, i find it disreputable.
Bodog's approach of creating a series, and buying a couple big contracts, exclusive or not, is much more effective. while it costs more money, u have to play to win. u aren't gonna build are organizaiton around sideshow type matches. if bodog was able to swing Fedor anything is possible. Esp with this pride/ufc merger going poorly, specifically due to contract problems your telling me that EliteXC won't be able to grab up a couple stars. Think about all the star power that is out there that isn't accounted for: Lindland, Buentello, Lawler (not counting ICON), Kikuchi just fought outside shooto, and i believe diaz only had a one fight deal (i could be wrong on that). The point is is that there are other ways to build an organization. As i stated before fighters like jake shields are a great example. they have to stay aggressive and over pay for the time being to build a solid foundation for future success.
Sidenote that makes this thing EVEN FUNNIER: the stadium holds 100,000.....come on...hahahha this if funny shit. Brock Lesner fighting in an arena that is AT BEST going to be 1/5 of the way full.
this is mma comedy, and what makes it funnier is that they take themselves seriously. i have more respect for the Kimbo Mercer fight that is coming up b/c it is at least embracing its identity. while it is clealry more outlandish than this Elite card, it not giving any misconceptions about what it is or presenting itself differently.

There are only so many ways of matching Lesnar, Choi, Saku and Royce.
Eventually they must use the alliance for help.

I think it is strange how many people have no interest in light weight fights but then do not want to see REALLY big guys fight. Since both Choi and Lesnar are unknown quantities I was actually looking forward to this fight. The card on paper was not that bad to begin with.
Manhoff is a beast and Yoon Dong sik has only been stopped by Sakuraba and gave Rampage a tough fight. Carano would have been entertaining. The other fights on the undercard looked good too even though they are not household names in America. Add to that Sak versus Royce, $10 ticket and I do not see what there is to complain about.
