It must be the vodka that he drinks.

I think the biggest elements of Fedor's success are:

1) Speed
2) Instinct
3) Cardio

There is no mystique behind cardio and instinct is hard to replicate. If any of his training techniques help with speed they should be taken note of.

Finally, RELENTLESSNESS. Particularly in the ways he dominated the likes of Herring, Goodridge, Nogueira, Ogawa and Zulu. The way he morphs from one means of attack to another so seamlessly. See, you can attempt to replicate that in training, but it kind of falls under that category of 'instinct'...

yes, if you give it 110% your will be like rich franklin, you will beat most athletes who give 105% in the gym, until a real FIGHTER comes along and pounds your nose into your right ear. gym rats have no business being "ultimate fighters". fedor, anderson, and fighters like them have talent where it counts, their "work out" regimen is a supplement to their talent.

Fedor has an unusual amount of talent/instinct/whatever you call it for MMA. He also has a great team of advisors and trainers to figure out his gameplans (and business affairs). If his physical training alone was to blame for his being #1 in the world, then everyone who ate too much sausage, ran a lot, and swung sledge hammers at tires would be top 10. Read through those Red Devil interviews carefully - the Russians pride themselves on not knowing what the hell they're doing for the most part and realistically rely on randomly recruiting raw talent from the vast number of poor and desparate... it's actually pretty funny how tough they mistakenly think the are in general. Then ask yourself: why are no other Red Devil/Russian fighters even close to Fedor's level? I mean, they do have the number fighter on the planet to copy and trainers to follow, no???

You've been in too many scrotumlocks. The key to Fedor's greatness is his training. It has nothing to do with swinging a sledgehammer at a tire. The basic fact is that he SPARS more than anyone. That is why he SEEMS to have inhuman instinct. He is willing to take the punishment of sparring more than anyone, so even though he may only fight 3 or 4 minutes in a given year, he has decades worth of sparring for the year.
