People start watching MMA without even knowing what they're watching. And before they know if, they're a fan. I think it's good for the sport because of more popularity. Jardine, Bisping, Sanchez, Evans, Kos, Stevenson, etc don't hurt either.

But are guys like Bisping, Stevenson and Jardine a worthy trade-off, without guys like Ricardo Arona, 95% of the LWs in the world that the UFC doesn't have, and so on?

Professional sports has evolved way beyond the game itself. It's all about promotion, storylines, characters, and most importantly: grabbing up mainstream viewers. The NFL, NBA, MLB, a lot of their promotion revolves around developing storylines between the teams or promoting superstars so that casual viewers have more motivation to watch a game. While the superstars are good in their own right, the superstar treatment they get from the refs and the league make them role models and household names, which ultimately benefits the league.

TUF allows mainstream viewers to get interested in a sport that many still deem to be the barbaric version of boxing. So to showcase fighters and their training, it's a big help. Obviously they're trying to develop the talent they see into interesting characters (anyone notice how much face time Mac got in in TUF6?), but that makes fights more interesting to the avrage viewer.

Liked Pride better

I have been a fan of Pride for years and years. But, the UFC has never been that interesting to me. I was never a fan of the drama driven Pro Wrestling either, Which is what the UFC is becoming more like. I do not deny they have great fighters, I am just not a fan of the soap opera-like drama. And..Pride fighters generally seemed to have a better sportsman-like attitude, not so much, "I hate this guy" "I'm going to kill you" talk.

Hey, it's opinion.

Tuf Sux

I'm so fucking sick of seeing UFC cards where half of the fighters were on TUF its bullshit... with the exception of a handful of fighters who probably would have "made it" anyway TUF just sends shit fighters into the UFC, handfeeds them feeble opponents to try to make them look good and hypes the hell out of these cans. Rashad sucks, put him in with Shogun, Page, Chuck or Wandy and he will get killed... why do these guys get to headline cards when they've never fought a top 10 fighter or anything close..... FUCK TUF it is steadily DROPPING the quality of fighters in the UFC.. get back to having real fighters, if you want to use TUF then let the WINNER OF THE SHOW into the UFC.... why even bother saying "THESE 16 FIGHTERS ARE COMPETING FOR A UFC CONTRACT" when everyone on the show gets to fight in the UFC, even if you suck...in closing TUF is gay, if your favorite fighters are from TUF- YOU are gay... DANA if you're out there, get back to giving title shots to real fighters who deserve it and stop coddling TUF amateurs - us "real ufc" fans miss watching TALENTED FIGHTERS

No one can deny that TUF raised the level of the sport in north america but it may be time to slow down. We are flooding the market or Oct with tuf fighters that have no buisness in the UFC. Fighters with No Pro Fights??? WTF Dana. Are you telling me we can't find fighters out there with a little more exp then this??? I say cut back to one season a year and if you don't make the semi's, then we don't see you for a year or so.

Why is this thread even up?

Hasnt it been documented that the Fertitta brothers were all but going to shut down the UFC because it was not profitable and TUF was a last ditch effort to salvage the company and popularize MMA.

If it wasnt for the show, MMA wouldnt even be popular and we wouldnt have all the other orgs that sprung up. The IFL, BODOG, PROELITE etc...

Sherdoggers are just never satisfied.

I never thought Lindland was dominating. He got ko'd by one of his own td's and lets just forget about the whole Dave Terrell incident.

Matt Lindland has been released after defeating everyone the UFC has thrown in front of him, and dominated in a wrestling fashion.

_First off I am a new guy on here so I am ready to feel the heat on this one but here my opinion goes: First off I feel that Tuf has done good and bad things. The good is it has given some good fighters no one heard of a chance. Such as Joe Stevenson and Forest Griffin. Also TUF helped make MMA a house hold name sport. The bad: we did get some annoying fighters face time such as Diego Sanchez, and Koscheck. Overall, I feel TUF has helped the sport more then hurt it.
