Icon2 TUF 4 Winners get a title shot in 2007?!

Hey guys, sorry if this is old news I usually don't stop by the TUF forum...MMAWeekly's rumor sections says the winner of each TUF 4 division will get a title shot in 2007? If that's true it's BULLSHIT!

"Hey you guys, yeah the ones that have already been booted from the UFC, come on the show and if you get three other sub-par fighters we'll give you a title shot next year!"

Just really not interested in TUF 4 right now, the only fighter I want to see back in the UFC is Matt Serra. Look at these records:

Confirmed Fighters at Middleweight (185 pounds):
-Patrick Cote (0-3 in UFC)
-Edwin Dewees (0-2 in UFC)
-Charles McCarthy (0-1 in UFC)
-Travis Lutter (1-2 in UFC)
-Gideon Ray (0-2 in UFC)
-Jorge Rivera (2-3 in UFC)
-Pete Sell (1-1 in UFC)
-Scott Smith (0-1 in UFC)
(Winner to get shot at UFC Middleweight Title in 2007)

Confirmed Fighters at Welterweight (170 pounds):
-Mikey Burnett (2-1 in UFC)
-Shonie Carter (3-2 in UFC)
-Matt Serra (4-4 in UFC)
-Rich Clementi (0-1 in UFC)
-Pete Spratt (2-2 in UFC)
-Chris Lytle (2-4 in UFC)
-Din Thomas (2-2 in UFC)
-Jeremy Jackson (0-1 in UFC)
(Winner to get shot at UFC Welterweight Title in 2007)

You dont want to see Pete Sell back?

He was superscrewed by Cecil Peoples in his last fight

Scott Smith should definately be back as well...he was also screwed (granted not as bad as Sell) by the ref

ya know that's a really good point, that stoppage was BS and I always liked him cause of his choke out on Baroni...okay, wouldn't mind seeing DRAGO return either.

Personally i'm excited for the show because after it's over and the non-winners are getting more fights due to name recognition gained from the show it'll be cool because instead of people like Alex Karalexis, Tait Fletcher, Kristian Rothermarel, etc it'll be guys i like watching fight like Serra, Lutter, Sell, Jackson, etc

If Serra wins will he take his title shot at 155 instead of 170?

that's a good question, i recall several times the possibility of serra at LW was raised, but nothing was ever mentioned about it. frankly i'm surprised to see him in the WW class, my guess is if he wins/returns to the UFC, he'll opt to fight at 155. maybe fighting at 170 was the only way he could get on the show...

It was. Each time the season casting directors are only looking for certain weight classes. That's why you see guys like Florian and Sanchez dropping after they get contracts. It's not their natural weight, but they pack on the pounds to get on the show.

Scott Smith is hardly washed up. Patrick Cote is always a good fight.

It's not just a rumor. Dana mentioned it on the 'recap show' where they announced the fighters. Both winners will get a title shot in the first half of 2007.

And there is tremendous talent on this show.

Not only could Serra win this, but he could drop down to 155 after the show and jump into contendership (since I don't think he'd beat GSP or Hughes).

Scott Smith has legitimately earned his shot in the UFC, and ignore the 0-1, it was ref bullshit (his spot on the show probably was a reward for him dropping his appeal).

I'm eager to see how Cote has developed and see what ground game he has. I think he's a marketable fighter and could be a good addition if he has worked on his wrestling and jiu jitsu since his last UFC match.

Pett Sell still deserves a spot and creates lots of interesting MW matchups.

Din Thomas is another fighter who could drop to 155 after the show and have more success.

Chris Lytle has always had entertaining fights, and while he might not be championship material, he's still improving and will always be a great fighter to keep in the UFC, if only as a gatekeeper to decide who else is worthy.

And while the TUF4 winners certainly won't be the top contenders in their class, it doesn't mean they won't have at least deserved it to an extent.

What if a Scott Smith, who's an up and coming UFC fighter, beat... Jorge Rivera and Pete Sell during the show, and then wins the finale against....Patrick Cote. Those are three fighters with legit talent. That's as good of a 3 win fight sreak as Leben and Swick have, and they are being considered contenders (well, Leben was before the Silva fight) in the division.

Giving the title shot to this fighter might delay a title shot to someone like Swick or Marquardt, but neither of those guys have so impressive a win streak or record that it's being shouted from the mountain tops that they're being screwed over. By the time the TUF4 winner has his shot, the current 3-8 UFC MW rankings will probably clear itself up with fights amongst each other.

And just to clarify, the title situation I mentioned earlier for TUF4 was purely hypothetical, and are not the supposed Gross spoilers, so no one has to worry.

Good idea

I think having these guys on will make for some good fights but they definitely shouldn't get a title shot.
