This is a post I just made in a different thread about the Ken/Kalib situation and showing respect:
I agree both with your and TonyFish's point that Ken didn't handle it properly either, but remember that he talked to Kalib early in the episode about how he was taking it slow.
There's a couple different issues - Kalib taking it easy because he's 'just not into the drills', Kalib taking it easy to avoid injury, and then the attitudes of both Kalib and Ken.
As far as the attitudes go, you don't mock your coach to his face. That was just rude and uncalled for, despite what Ken said. He's been training bjj for 10 years, no matter who his coach is, he should understand the inherent respect that is required and expected in martial arts.
Even if Ken is wrong or is rude in the way he handles it, he's still the coach. He's the superior. He can be a dick if he wants, and you're supposed to take it. It's not like Starnes should be ignorant of Ken's background - what does he expect from the head of the infamous Lion's Den?
As for the drills and injury, that's something they just need to get together and figure out how it's going to work both for Kalib and for the team. Kalib needs to realize, especially now that Tito has control, that the more he helps the lesser guys on his own team, the better shot they have at beating one of Tito's top guys (ala Noah/Jessue but reverse the roles). That means Kalib will have an easier path to the championship, just by trying to be an extra teacher and helper right now.
