I rolled with him when he first began and he said that he could watch jiu-jitsu all day and he only liked football to get a check. He was very nice and I wish him the best.

I'm a fan. He appears to have a great attitude, about other people and about MMA. I do worry about his age spoiling his chances for a long fighting career. But who knows, myabe he's one of those guys, like Couture, who'll be able to maintain his freak abilities as he ages.

I like him a lot as a person, but I think he's way to slow on his feet to ever be successful. He seems like a KO victim waiting to happen.

he is likable enough and his age is not a "plus" for him

i think his greatest obstacles are

1. he is just too nice: he can get angry sure but that is not the same thing as being mentally tough and looking at everyone else as an obstacle to be defeated and not as someone you want to like you.

2. he gets upset: sure everyone gets angry but he let's little things swell up into major events. that will prove to be a major distraction in his training and competition. this is another indication that he just does not have the personality for this. his personality reminds me of bob sapp.

having said all that, he was a competitve athlete before and may well prove all of this to be nonsense; time will tell.

i think he is good for three fights in the UFC before he decides that although he likes MMA, being a professional fighter in the UFC is not what he wants to do.

I have to wonder though, playing in the NFL for eight years and being a first round pick, I assume he has more money than Shad and rampage?
I agree his age will really hold him back, although I hope he does well. I looked up his salary in the NFL, in 1998 he made just over $1 million. (NFC Salary List) Not sure how much Rampage and Rashad make/made but (assuming that he didn't blow all his money) I think Marcus is doing fine financially after 7 years in the NFL.

Marcus seems to have very good jiu-jitsu, and apparently has some serious knockout power. Now, name a Heavyweight who matches those credentials? The only one I can think of is Fedor.

You can't discount anyone for a lack of experience (see: Brock Lesnar). I think Marcus would match up well with a lot of the top guys in the division and if he can learn as fast as he seems to be, he could be a force.

I agree, 35 is not the age to be starting out.
