Why do people hate TUF?
There are four main reasons people hate TUFers.
1: Some, NOT ALL, of them were given an opportunity to jump way ahead of the line. Fighters like Bisping deserved a shot at the UFC and would have inevitably made it to the big show even with out TUF. However every year there are always a handful of fighters that are given a opportunity they did not deserve. Sure Matt Hamill is great guy, but the dude had NO professional MMA fights under his belt before the show. Wrestling pedigree or not, why did he deserve to receive a ticket to the UFC ahead of the hundreds of fighters who have been training for years and winning in the smaller promotions. I'm not saying the aforementioned TUFers would not have eventually made it, and I don't think they kept a large number of people out (frankly they are the reason the UFC has more capital and can hire more fighters and put on more shows). But in general, people tend to dislike those with the perceived silver spoon in their mouth.
2: Dana White - I think the guy has done a lot of good for the sport. That said, he rubs some people the wrong way, and the manifestation of this hatred is directed at the TUFers, who are permanently connected with him and the show.
3: Is sorta tied in with 1&2, but at some point over exposer is bound to brew hatred. Like many good songs, they get really annoying after you have to listen to them 500 times a day on TV and the Radio (I hate MTV, but thats besides the point). Dana has used the TUFers to foster name recognition, so they are on every Ultimate Fight Night and are give air time on the PPVs that they have not yet earned. I love Leben, but watching him fight 6 times a year on Spike can wear on most nerves.
4: This might be the biggest reason, but some people on sherdog used MMA as their own little "counter culture". They viewed themselves as embattled supporters of a sport the general public disdained. Once TUF and MMA hit the main stream, they lost their little niche, as a result they take out there frustration on the TUF fighters and the "tuf noobs." (This also goes along way towards explaining some of Pride worship that goes on in this forum: 'people might know about the UFC, but I can still claim Pride as my own')*
*Before I get flamed, I am not saying everyone with a join date before 2005 fall in to this category; but who can deny that some do?
Rant Over.
-- As a little pre-empt, I started watching MMA before TUF - don't judge me by my belt or join date --

STFU TUF noob, this thread doesn't do anything to help this problem.
The fact that you're posting this thread and adding to the problem is EXACTLY the problem you're attempting to define, but fail badly at doing.

Fair enough. I think all of those points are very valid for reasons why MMA fans do not like TUFers and the TUF series.

People hate TUF because of all the new fans it brought to the sport. Not realizing that these new fans will help support the growing of the business and create better matchups and athletes in the future.
More or less TUF is simply used to refer to anyone who got into MMA recently and doesn't have a broad knowledge, even if it wasn't through TUF. BTW, most new fans are also younger and are very immature and have semi-retarded views based on their maturity level.

Did you really need to bite his head off over this? Does getting angry and hurling insults at someone for discussing their opinion in a rational manner help the problem? Enjoy your fall off your high horse.

LOL, Brilliant display of linguistic cocksmenship. How long did it take you to come up with "STFU TUF noob"?
Furthermore, the only way you CAN solve a problem is to understand the logic behind it. If someone can say after they finish reading the post, "I fit into one of those categories" then maybe they will have a better understanding of why they hate the fighters, and will make an attempt change, or at the very least cool down the idiotic crises of "TUF noobs."
And, I'm sorry, I fail to meet your standards of writing excellence. If we could all figure out how to fit the word PROBLEM three times into a stretch of 17 words, the world would be a better place.
Cheers!
