If you look at the fact that he made $500,000 dollars for a fight on EliteXC then he has to be considered overated. Which is different from being bad. He was headlining a major card and getting money typically reserved for champoinchip fights like Liddel or Couture.

Kimbo has a professional sanctioned MMA record of 3-1 (this does not include the win over Ray Mercer which was an exhibition). He beat Bo Cantrell who has a losing MMA record and had lost his previous 4 fights heading into the Kimbo fight. He beat Tank Abott who was on a 3 fight losing streak and had lost 7 of his past 8 fights and has a sub 500 fighter.

He then beat James Thompson who was on a 2 fight losing streak but does have a 14-8 record when they fought. Kimbo did not look great in that fight and probably should have lost, but he did win over a legitimate fighter, who has had some big wins and fights.

He lost to Seth who had a record of 9-4 and other than a weight disparity the most talented fighter Kimbo has faced.

What does this all mean? Kimbo has not fought anyone of significance in the Heavyweight class, he lost to the only decent fighter he faced. There is a lot of hype surrounding him, and most of it isn't his fault it is the promoters and media. All he did was cash in and who could blame him

The attention and hype do not equal his MMA credentials, he is overated in that sense. He has KO power and obviously a certain accumen for stiking even if unrefined. If he can improve his wrestling and use it in reverse to keep the fight standing he could do well. He is intimidating and will always have a punchers chance. He should be able to beat most of the guys there but if he runs into someone like Roy Nelson or Wes Simms he could be in big trouble. There are a few other fighters in season 10 that have UFC experience and will give him trouble.

I think he will win a fight maybe two depending on his match ups, he will show a lot of improvement, do well enough to get some fights on the UFC cards afterwards. If he can keep out of the knuckle head stuff and show that he is training hard I think he could have a moderately succesfull career, although it will be short.

This...
Its not that Kimbo is really to old he's just passed his prime for training he actually has potential, too bad he wasted that prime dropping out of highschool and getting into street fights.

Kimbo is a joke. Everyone knows it. I bet he doesn't make it past the 2nd episode. What all does he have? He has punching power, THATS IT, no ground game, no jits, no nothing.. He is a backyard brawler and thats all he will ever be. This next TUF season will prove that and I hope it finally shuts all these Kimbo dik suckers the fuk up.. Pardon my french but thats how it is..

This.

There are a ton of guys that Kimbo could beat, but there are a ton of guys that could beat Kimbo, too.

If Kimbo was just an MMA fighter and didn't have the rep he has, no one would know who he was.

Other than a very suspect ground game...the main problem I see with Kimbo is his gass tank. The guy is 36, and just quit smoking if I am not mistaken. He tends to look exhausted after his fights. I actually want Kimbo to do well though, because I have no problem with him giving mma a try.

I still remember back when the UFC was about matching fight style vs fight style..even if it was street fighting or "pit fighting". If he is up to the challenge, then let him fight.
