First, season 10 sucked, now....
I find it funny that up until last episode, everyone was on here frothing at the mouth at how aweful the season was. It was the worst season ever, and all sorts of other venemous bile.
Now, thanks to "Teh Darkness", everyone is talking about how he is the best thing on this season and now it's no longer the worst season ever. In fact, now I see people saying the season has been saved by Big Baby.
Maybe I have a small advantage about how I see TUF, since I've watched every single episode without fail since TUF season 1.
Maybe I'm just not as fickle as most people on the internet. I admit, the fights up until this last one were boring, and the season was certainly shaping up to be aweful.
But I think everyone forgot that the magic of this show is that by the time you get passed the first round of fights, the fights continue to get better and better.
A) This season we didn't have preliminary fights to get into the house, everyone was allowed in. So we didn't have the benefit of watching the "people who don't REALLY want to fight for a living" getting kicked out before the show really began.
B) The quarterfinals should be better than the preliminaries we watched as people have had more time to train and work on mistakes they made in the first fight. The semifinals should be better than the quarterfinals using the same logic, and the finals should be amazing.
C) Every season, I start off not knowing anyone and rooting for no one and by the end of the season I have a clear fighter I'm rooting for.
This is why TUF continues to keep my interest...
Maybe you guys judged the season a little too early?

I think season 10 has been the worst season so far. Now that may be because it is the easiest for me to recall since we are in the thick of it. Its the phenomenon that happens when you ask the question "What is the fight of the year" in the heavies and everyone names some fight within the last two UFCS. Nonetheless, I to have watched every single episode of TUF since season 1 and have defended previous seasons when people have said the show was bad. It has only been the last two seasons that I have not enjoyed. Of course, I still watch it!
Big Baby didn't save the season for me. I'm apparently one of the few people that really can't stand the guy. He acts like he is 10. Also, I'm surprised at how little camera time Kimbo has got. Apparently his personality isn't as interesting as we thought it would be. The fights have been awful, not just because many have been sloppy early prelims, but because at least four guys came in completely out of condition. All should have been knocked out of the comp, but because other guys were out of condition, two of them have advanced (mcSweeney and Mitrione). I think that you are right that not having the fight try-outs to get into the house was part of the problem. But at least you admit it was a problem that is contributing to this show not living up to its full potential.
Nonetheless, even this show has some potential future talent. Schaub, Wren, and Nelson all seem to me to have futures. Marcus with another year or two of training also will have a promising future.

Just because you can derive one interesting fighter who actually has potential after 8 episodes doesn't suddenly make the show good. Sure there are 4 or 5 guys in the house that might actually have some kind of future but the other 75% won't last 3 fights in the UFC.
Obviously, the fights have to get better in the semis because it would be nearly impossible for them to get worse. Also, there were two reasons why they had no prelim fights.
1) There weren't enough good HWs to even bother.
2) Kimbo might not have even made it in the house.
It' not a good show. Its not compelling and hasn't been for years. They need to make it stop.

This season hasn't lived up to the hype. I remember reading about how there was so much great footage that it couldn't possibly be edited down to fit one season. There was talk about possibly releasing some bonus footage on the internet because so much happened during filming. But watching so far, I'm just not seeing it.

There is still 6 fights left on the show.... I think it's premature to call it the worst season ever after just the first round when pretty much everybody knew about half the guys on the season had no chance of doing anything. But regardless yes the season has been very bad thus far.

Roughly 4 or 5 fighters out of every season end up being UFC quality. In recent seasons its been worse. This is actually the best season, talent-wise, maybe since TUF 5.

Great point. I thought the same thing during the first round seeing the potential in the performances of some of the guys (Schaub, Jones, Wren, etc.) "Man, as usual I'm really looking forward to the next two rounds."

I love that your screen name perfectly describes Marcus Jones's fight.

Hahaha, exactly.
One of my favorite Mike Goldberg calls ever. In stating that I have to mention that I am both a Matt Hughes and a GSP fan about equally.

People have said every season sucks. There were people saying TUF 3 sucks after the Hamill v. Nickels fight, saying each was a bum, had no cardio, were boring, ect. You can look up threads on Sherdog from whiners on each season.
Usually, the 2nd round fights are better than the first as the cream rises to the top. There are 4-5 legit fighters from this season as with most seasons.
I've found this season entertaining and look forward to every episode. It is an MMA tournament, what's not to like?
Really hard to complain about TUF after seeing Final Fu, Iron Ring, Tapout, Bully Beatdown, ect. Contenders editing was the worst thing I ever saw, when they slowed down actual fight footage, constantly showed the crowd and added sound effects.
