Can the champ refuse?

Quite a few of the coaches of TUF have been current title-holders. I didn't get the impression that Rampage was unhappy about coaching on the show, but I did get the impression that he didn't like to have such a long layoff between fights.

Also, I can see someone not wanting to have that much personal contact with someone they're going to be facing in a title fight. I don't think that either Forrest or 'Page had an issue with that, but I can imagine that some fighters might prefer not to participate in something like that with their opponent.

I wonder if any of the champs or contenders are really in a position to say no if asked to coach a season of this show.

I thought it was disgusting how Serra got to sit on the belt for so long. I like TUF, but it really does seem to be interfering with the scheduling of some important marquee fights.

Yes, the champ can refuse. But who would want to turn down a chance to be on a weekly tv show ?

no one will turn it down... because of cash, exposure, ppv hype which means MORE cash for them etc...

ever read matt hughes book? He did, but his wife convinced him to do the show again. Along with the stipulation that he get a john deer tracker at the end of the show.

Yea these guys make all of their money on hype...well maybe 80 percent hype 20 percent skill. Its the reason we all bought the GSP/Serra 2,BJ/Stevenson, BJ/SHerk ppvs. Its all hype. At no point did anyone think the underdogs in that fight had a shot. Sometimes we get lucky and the fight lives up to the hype as it did this past weekend. These guys get way too much money, to much exposure, promotion for their ppv which can only mean money in their pockets. Whats good for Zuffa is good for the fighters too.

Why Serra and not Chuck, Hughes, Franklin, Rampage?
