You Cant Call a Kid "Fat"
As many of you know, there is an obesity epidemic among American kids. On CNN there was a news report that many kids are easily 100 lbs or more over their ideal body weight range. Of course, these kids and their parents do not grasp that being this over-weight WILL set them up for severe medical conditions later (or earlier depending on how you look at it), in life. Diabetes, Hyper-tention, Coronary Artery Disease, all likely before they hit 40. And to top it off...
New federal regulations state that school districts when conducting the mandatory annual physicals for their students cannot call the child "fat".... They cite that it is a self-esteem issue and that labeling a child "fat" can damage that. So you have to use terms like "bariatric" or some such other nonsense the Medical Professionals had to make up in order to be more PC.
My question is why can't you call a kid "fat"....????Theyre fat aren't they? And is it sending the wrong message by not dealing with the problem and a dangerous problem at that to sugar coat these kids by labeling them "bariatric" patients and other garbage. For a country who's current leader is a fitness guru practically and is labeled as the most in shape president of all time, you'd think he'd get off his ass and write some initiative to deal with this troubling problem!

Don't get me started on this...
In all honesty, predjudice aside, I am ashamed at my country when it comes to how we eat and take care of our bodies. Granted, we have very busy lives that don't always allow time to cook wholesome meals or exercise, I think it's out of control none-the-less.
What am I doing about it? I'm in great shape and I view myself as a continual improvement as I grow older, but I also take any time aside to talk to friends, family, teammates, and even strangers that come to me with nutrition questions. It's the least I can do and by promoting awareness that being fat (or obese, or bariatric, or whatever the politically correct term is), is not ok, regardless of what anyone tells you. That's the biggest problem, America saying that it's ok to be a medical liability to the rest of the country.

Agreed. I teach adult kickboxing and BJJ at our school and of course there are also children's programs. Our instructor was really stuck when even adult size BJJ uniforms wouldnt fit some 10 year old 287 lb kid. I mean what do you tell the parent? Sorry, your kid is so fat we have to custom make a BJJ gi for him? It is sad and I'm not trying to be funny, I'm trying to see what everyone feels a good solution might be!

You aren't allowed to call a spade a spade.
People aren't short, they are vertically challenged. People aren't retarded, they are "special".
Fat people are lazy bastards. Short people can't grow and retarded people can't become normal, but fat people can damn sure lose that weight.

Man my generation was the last one to get away with riding your bike with no helmet, not having to worry about calling a kid Fat and having him become depressed. i mean hell did you know that now they dont even keep score in little league games so that no one is 'depressed' after they lose the game. thats total bullshit.Nothing like some good home grown competition to make you try harder. fucking pansies

The whole point is that people are unwilling to accept the fact that if they are fat it is completely their fault, so they have their deficiancy labeled in a PC manner as is done with actual genetic deficiancys or differences, afro-american, differently abled are two examples.
This was they can cut their responibility and have a great excuse, not only before society but also before themselves, to keep up the fucked up lifestyle.
