I grew up in a border city (EL Paso, TX.). This is nothing new at all. I recall one incident in which the state police had a firefight with the federal authorites. Can you imagine if state troopers shot it out with the FBI? Mexico is corrupt to the core.

Mexico is becoming a failed state. The drug cartels, the illegal immigrant trade, and the kidnapping trade are reaching the point where the government can't govern any longer.

Attempts by the clean members of the police and government to get back control are being assassinated in great numbers. Candidates for political office are being bought off, threatened, or killed before elections and after. Newspapers and all the media in Mexico are under threat or attack.

Here in San Diego there was a special news report last week on the kidnapping trade that is going on between Tijauan and Ensenada. There are hundreds of people being kidnapped including many American and other tourists. The average ransoms of KNOWN victims in these cases have now reached accumulated totals of SIX MILLION DOLLARS A MONTH. We are even getting Americans kidnapped within the San Diego area and taken back to Mexico where they are held. Many are killed with or without ransom payments.

The US needs to quickly close the border and shut off the drug trade ($25 billion), illegal immigrant trade (1.5 million x $2000), and kidnapping business ($ billions).

Business, investment, tourism, etc. is staying out of Mexico, and the native population is being held under the thumb of corrupt and extorsionist police, bureaucrats, and drug lords and criminal gangs. Decent people there are being extorted, deprived of legitmate work and capital investment, declining public services, increasing costs, increasing unemployment, and eventually pushed into finding a decent life across the border in the USA.

Mexico is one of the richest countries in the world, and one of the biggest oil producers in the world (oil is now $120/barrel).

Any decent honest Mexican who tries to expose the spiraling situation in the media or run for office or do diligent police work is threatened or killed.

Mexico is in a spiral that it can't get out of without the eventual equivalent of a civil war. A civil war that the US will eventually have to back in its own interest as all this is spilling over the border into the US.
