Of course but in reality probably not. In SF they're humanoid to relate to the reader and so the writers can be lazy and not think of something radical plus their tech would make sense and be compatible.

if we ever personally meet aliens they will NOT resemble anything from science fiction...still interesting though and I may be a dreamer but we will achieve ftl travel some day soon as we figure out an energy source and work out some paradoxes. a hundred years ago no one could envision a television let alone a fucking plasma tv or hdtv, so one we will be able to travel faster than the speed of light

people dont realize how seriously underfunded nasa, science and engineering is in this country (unless its a weapon or military project) take the space shuttle for instance, that piece of shit should of been decommissioned in the early 90s yet only now are we creating the next generation of space craft, there so much to learn from our solar system and beyond

This is a strange development to me for many reasons. Some have already been brought up.

"How can we rule out that life may have developed elsewhere?" Funes said.

Instead of developed he could have said created, but he didn't. Maybe that is the happy medium between evolved and created.

I'm still wondering what the purpose of this announcement is. Did somebody see something, was there a visit, or is science just winning them over?
