Arizona State, the D1 national wrestling champs from 10 years ago, cancelled its wrestling program this week.

Dan Henderson, Cain Velasquez and CB Dollaway wrestled for them. Cain and CB were all-americans there just 2 years ago. This year they also had a one legged freshman (Robles) who was one match away from being an all american.

Vice President for University Athletics Lisa Love blamed budgetary reasons for cancelling 3 men's sports while confirming that no women's sports were considered. She also said “There’s no way you can discount the gender equity component." The school says it will save wrestling if they receive $8m in donations to do so(other schools have done that only to cancel wrestling years later).

I doubt women's sports make money for the school (chicks would have to be naked for me to watch them play water polo) and in most/all cases they are created for quota reasons (not a reaction to athlete or fan interest). This while the world's oldest sport dies as colleges who have been famous for their programs put them to rest.

Title 9 is ass backward PC bullshit that has remained unchallenged for more than 10 years now

They tried to pull some shit like this at my HS. They said there wasn't enough for a JV and V Football team, and they only wanted a varsity, which meant all the kids in 9th grade like me would sit on the sidelines instead of playing. Meanwhile they made plans for a girls lacrosse team. We had a JV team, but only through parents donations.

The gender equity part sucks, but IMHO colleges put too much emphasis on athletics anyways. I don't mind them being trimmed down, even if the retarded title IX is the way it happens.

Title IX is the worst shit ever. It all but destroyed College wrestling in America. I have no problem with womens sports, but it is garbage to have the whole issue.

You think they will bring it back? I don't. Syracuse never brought it back

Plenty of good programs have gone away and the only major one I know of that came back was Bucknell and that's because a rich guy put in his will that they could have 10s of millions
if they brought it back.

Montclair State (D3, formerly D1) had people raise money for them in exchange for keeping the program and they instead eliminated it 2 years later.

I don't know the details, but Notre Dame cancelled their program after someone left them millions specifically for what was then an up and coming wrestling team

this is blatant douchebaggery, in fact I wrote a nine page paper on the douchebaggery of the way title IX has been implemented though sometimes the colleges are equally at fault, not that I have anything against women having equal opportunity to participate in athletics.

Shame it happens. Simple fix for this is to stop all this girls and guys sports crap. Make all sports co-ed.

Title IX has been used as a litigation weapon for years by feminatzis with the help of liberal judges who legislates from the bench to shut down all men's athletic programs possible. Colleges find it easier to comply than to go through with lengthy and expensive lawsuits. During the Clinton's administration they cut government funding for prostate cancer to increase funding for breast cancer.

Keep in mind shit like that will happen the next time you vote for a liberal.
