Supreme Court strikes down D.C. handgun ban

Justices Find an Individual Has a Right Own Guns

Quote:
The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that the District of Columbia cannot ban a citizen from keeping a handgun at home, throwing out one of the nation's strictest gun control laws.
The Supreme Court, in a 5-4 vote, supports the right to own guns.

Writing for the 5-4 majority, Justice Antonin Scalia said that the Constitution protects an individual's right to keep and carry a gun. The decision will affect gun control laws across the country.

Yeah, imagine... multiple threads here on a subject that does not concern Israelis or their resident arabs.

I think it was a good ruling and well supported. However it really only deals with the right to have a handgun at home, so I'm sure there will be more cases to come to clarify registration and licensing restrictions.

That's probably because the DC ban was so absurdly broad and essentially forbade operational handguns in homes. Issues like concealed weapons permits weren't before the court.
