Supreme Court overrules Bush on Gitmo

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that President Bush overstepped his authority in ordering military war crimes trials for Guantanamo Bay detainees.
The ruling, a rebuke to the administration and its aggressive anti-terror policies, was written by Justice John Paul Stevens, who said the proposed trials were illegal under U.S. law and international Geneva conventions.
In brief comments, Bush said he will work with Congress to get approval to try terrorism suspects before military tribunals.

Chief Justice Roberts... I mean Chief Crony Roberts couldn't vote due to conflict of interest because he was vital in keeping Gitmo open a while ago. Good. This guy is gonna back Bush on everything and the less input he has, the better. 4 Geneva Convention violations people.

The import of the ruling is that Bush needs to go to Congress to get authorization for the Commission. It was basically a procedural ruling that relied heavily on semantics.
