Maybe it has to do with population density? More dense populations walk to more destinations so they will be less fat. People in denser populations are also closer socially so they feel that socially-centered solutions are more appropriate, and thus, vote for the more socialist Democrats. Hence, you get overlap.

Or I could just be pulling this out of my ass right now.

What I see is that Colorado, the most fit state in the union, voted Republican.
