Trust me I give all powerfull ethno supremacists/tribalist religions equal shit if they are brought up.This thread is about Scientology so thats why we talk is about Scientology.
Scientology is just an another fraud, scam, hoax . They shouldn't be given a free pass just because other popular cults are allowed to carry on.That would be like giving a criminal asking for leniency because some criminals got away with their crimes.
Germany is taking the right action in banning this cult.

If you ban a whole religion, that presents a scary precedent.
If you prosecute accordingly though, that should do the trick in taking away the religions power.
I find it scary that many here are willing to ignore the Constitution in freedom of religion and right to organize groups. Just prosecute them for their wrong-doings.

There is a limit to even freedom of speech. Should it be ok to allow charlatans to brainwash people to fork over their money and life?
Why should religion, which can not be scientifically proven get a pass on fraud. I got no sympathy for these Machevalian shysters who prey on the gullible and naive.
Schools should teach a course on rationality and reason.

In 100 years, Scientology may be the new LDS Church. In 2000 years, the new Christianity. Laugh now, but this is how all that crap gets started.

I am just mesmerized by the fact that Tom Cruise can talk for hours without saying anything of substance. I think Tom Cruise and Huckabee should debate.
The best part is when he says "If you are a scientologist, and you drive past a car wreck, it's different, because you know you are the only one who can help" lol

Exploitation is against the law.
If you basically charge Scientology for the crimes they committed, you take them down. Money laundering. Extortion. You can easily take the religion down by those charges.
If you ban it, you set a disturbing precedent where government is able to ban institutions as they please. If you take them down legally, people see them for who they are, and you don't have that disturbing precedent.
That's why the ACLU defends the KKK and neo-nazis. Not because of what they stand for. But because of the right to organize. In no way is the ACLU not against persecuting groups for legitimate crimes of extortion or violence though.

Well lets stop the cancer before it gets powerful . Problem is finding an effective method to deprogram people brainwashed by religion. I tried with Mom, but sadly she is too elderly and set in her ways to comprehend. Makes me really really pissed to see her exploited by religion.

I know what you are saying and I am uneasy too with banning an ideology. The things is there are unscrupulous bastards in this world who abuse our freedoms and liberties and are cunning enough to stay just within the law.
So is it possible to take Scientology down in a court of law with rationality and reason? After all, we did have the Scopes Monkey trial which essentially prevented creationist's attempt to suppress science.

If you call somebody a fool or a personal insult, he will get defensive and hold onto his beliefs stronger in spite of you.
If you let him present his case, and destroy it with logic while treating him as an equal, he may listen to you.
