I just think it seems unbelievable to a lot of people because they don't see all this extra money. They live on base and eat in the chow halls and don't see all the hidden money they are getting for housing, insurance, food, etc. I lived off base though so I collected all the money.

Dude you really for once need to do some FUCKING research. Jesus fucking christ....
It's funny how you don't seem to include all the other benefits college graduates get from a "real" job like engineering. You conviniently add these numbers into that of military personel, but shit like 401K matching, ESPP, NQSO's, RSU's, profit sharring etc. etc....not to mention health care that is 8000000000 times better than military medical care is no where mentioned on the civilian counter part. To give you an idea, an EE working for a company that offers only average stock based compensation that has a base salary of 60K will actually be making at least in the mid 80's...yes we are talking guys right out of school to 2-3 years of work experience. A guy with 5 plus years makes on an average between 90 - 110k when the market conditions are mediocre to shitty. When the market is good these guys can make a nice chunk of cash.

well said Rudy. Even though I didn't make shit when I was in, I wouldn't trade the experience/what I learned/life lessons for going to college instead of the military ( i would however change how i spent some of my time/money)

You've already made this point once earlier in the thread and I admitted that you were right about their extra bonuses and benefits. That still doesn't change the fact that military guys still get paid a good salary.

So you were a linguist... That doesn't change anything.
You didn't answer the question.
How many of these hundreds of officers that you knew did you interrogate about their degrees?

If he's right (which you just admitted to) then you are wrong. The two arguments are mutually exclusive.
EOT.

Interrogate? We ate breakfast together and talked about life and future plans. I don't know how many, but I would say a pretty fair percentage. As far as the officers I worked around, I would say I knew pretty much every single one of them. They usually would mention it in their introduction speech. If not, I one of us would usually ask.

I am wrong that military members are overcompensated if they make a little less than engineers after you figure in stock options? Uh huh.

The conditions I listed were under mediocre to shitty conditions in the market. When the Russell 2000 index is flying high, so are all the engineers, and other people in that industry.
