Well, ultimately, you have to stop hating people for being more successful than you.
Success is measured by your own self-worth, how pleased you are with your accomplishments. I could go back to a military job anytime I wanted to, if I thought it would fulfill something for me. It can't. I feel I can do something more and I have no desire to return. I am also not complaining that a military member makes more than me, because they don't. I complain about this the same as I complain about the habitually poor lazy folk collecting welfare. I am not jealous they are more successful than I am; I only think they collect more money than they should.

I am getting out of life what I deserve. I work hard, and I make a good salary, comparatively. I just feel like I should do more. I'm still working on finding my niche.

The option still exists though, and it's more or less the same option most have outside of war time, to select a cush job, complete a few weeks of training, work a 9-5 job, sit around BSing, and make more money than an engineer.

Does anyone believe that a guy that doesn't deploy, doesn't have any real responsibilities, doesn't have an education, and only answers a phone in an office for 7 hours a day then goes home should ever earn more than an engineer? No? But this is the standard for these jobs. These people, on average, ARE earning more. Do you not feel these people are being overpaid for their efforts? Am I the only one that thinks redneck Billy Bob that didn't graduate high school and now files papers SHOULD make less than someone with an advanced technical degree?
I agree that they are getting paid more than they prilly should for what they do, but I didn't make that job for an E-5, that is up to the chain of command/DoD. Seriously, I think it is worng, but this ranks about |-| high on my "give a fuck" meter, I have bigger things to worry about. So some people are getting over on the system, wish i was but oh well, worrying about it isn't going to improve my situation.

Seriously, you need to quit focusing on the negative, because all that is doing is destroying yourself on the inside. So you are getting fucked with your wages, so was I, I was working practically 7 days a week and killing myself for shit pay. But then I changed companies and do less work and get paid more, no longer killing myself. Maybe you can look for a new place to work or changing jobs.

remember: ONLY you can make things better for you and your family. If you are not happy with your situation, it is up to YOU to improve it. No one else is going to do it for you.

I had to stomp that into my brothers head that was complaining like you. He finally took it to heart and now he is doing much better. Society doens't owe you anything, YOU must pull yourself up and do it. I haven't seen that new Will smith movie, but maybe you should go watch it.

Should a janitor that applies himself and does a good job at sweeping the floor make more than a lawyer? Is that what you are trying to argue?

I agree! This thread was in response to the thread about how some military members believe society owes them something for their job. My response was that they volunteered for it, and many are already overcompensated for their work.

I am not jealous or envious of them earning good wages anymore than I am of a drug addict getting welfare. I just don't agree with it. This is not a thread about me feeling society owes me more. That is a goal I have for myself and something I am responsible for, no one else. This is a thread simply about my opinion for current policies.

No not at all, you came out of left field with that one

Janitors should make a livable wage and some of them do while most dont. Lawyers make far more than a livable wage.

Im not refferring to our troops making white collar paychecks, I reffering to them making livable wages.

Its not that complicated

This conversation also reminds me of several translators I met at NSA. Let me tell you, there are some weird guys that work at NSA. There are guys that come to work stinky, looks like they didn't comb their hair, guys that walk down the halls rubbing their fingers down the walls following the cracks.. lots of weirdos. Anyway, there are some really lazy people. I met an ex military translator that pretty much didn't do anything. He came in, had some coffee, read the newspaper, sent out some emails, when out for lunch, came back to his desk and maybe worked for an hour then went home. At NSA it seems like you have good job security and it's pretty hard to get fired. Some guys don't do jack crap and still get their weekly check. They get mediocre performance reports and don't get promoted, but they keep their jobs. Some people are satisfied coming in as a GS-11 and not working. I guess it's sort of like collecting welfare in a way. My point is, I don't like systems that are set up to accommodate the underachievers. One should earn a salary proportional to the service one provides.

IMO serving you're country is one of the biggest "services" you can provide society.

And why didn't you have a good relationship with you're parents?
